Recently knocked off his featherweight perch by Mike Brown, Urijah Faber will make a quick turn and get right back in the cage on Jan. 25 at WEC 38. A little more surprising, however, may be whom he will be facing. Sources close to the bout tell MMAWeekly.com that Faber will rematch Jens Pulver at the San Diego event.
Although bout agreements have yet to be signed, sources indicate that both sides have verbally agreed to the rematch. Faber bested Pulver in a five-round war in their original outing on June 1 in Sacramento, Calif.
As mentioned, Faber is coming off of a knockout loss to current WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown. The defeat was his first as a featherweight and only the second of his career. Faber's first defeat was a lightweight bout against current UFC contender Tyson Griffin. He is still ranked No. 2 in the world as a featherweight.

I think i'd rather see Faber vs Jose, seems early for a rematch. Also if pulver loses that 3 straight losses.

Cant say i think this is the best match making in the world. Seems like theyre just putting the 2 biggest names available together to sell the card. Id rather see Pulver rematch Cub Swanson.

it might be make it or break it for Jens. I love the dude but he's getting used and abused by younger fighters.

Yeah that was my thought to, but i would think theyre gona put Garcia up against Brown rather than just giving Faber the next shot. Mix it up a little.

They must not expect Jens to make it back to the title level. Since the huge upset to Leonard Garcia they probably thought this was the best way to get what they could out of him and his name.
Even though we pretty much know the outcome of a rematch like this it will still be another crazy fight unless Uriah is a little gunshy. It would be awesome for Jens to give his last career hurrah and knock Fabers daylights out with a shot.
I like Faber but it would be awesome for Jens and I would like him to have another great upset over the promotions goldenboy.

I want to see this rematch but not yet.. there are some other matches like those mentioned that make more sense.. I'd really rather see Pulver rematch swanson over faber again.. but if it is to be faber i'd love to see Pulver pull off the win.. he's got the skills but does he have it mentally right now.. plus how is Faber going to react mentally as well.. this could still be an interesting match after all..

It looks like they are sending Jens out to pasture. I still think he is marketable for another couple of years, doesn't make sense to me. Although I will watch and enjoy it.

This match makes no sense to me. No offense to the matchmakers, but I'm at a bit of a loss for words. Jens needs a pick me up fight, and Faber already decisively beat him- what could have changed?

The first match wasn't even close, as Jens didn't win a single round last time. Now Jens is coming off another loss. The rematch is a dull idea. Either the matchmaker lacks imagination, or they're trying to give Urijah a safe match.
Why not give him the guy that destroyed Pulver (Leonard Garcia)? I think it's because he's a very dangerous fight for Urijah and he could potentially end Faber's run as the WEC posterboy.

You see a lot of promotions do this, protect one guy and feed the other to the wolves. If they do this and end up cutting Jens for it then they are F-ed up. All the other options mentioned are much better for all parties involved. Faber vs Aldo, Brown vs Garcia and Pulver vs anyone else. Don't screw over Jens WEC!!!!
