Demian Maia continued his impressive run in the Octagon Saturday night, submitting much loved Ultimate Fighter 1 veteran Nate Quarry in the first round with a rear naked choke. The win now puts Maia at 4-0 in the UFC with all four of his wins coming by the way of submission. He remains undefeated as a professional.
With the middleweight division quickly running out fresh challengers for UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva, Maia has put himself on the short list for a possible title fight down the line.
Since joining the UFC in October of 2007, he has been impressive in his run. His ground game has looked absolutely perfect, using flawless technique to set up all four of his submission victories in the UFC. The only question mark surrounding Maia is how good is his striking, which is a key component to every fighter’s arsenal.

Yeah, there is just too many fighters ahead of him in that division just yet. I think he is 2 wins away from a title shot (assuming he gets them both).
I would like to see him fight Bisping or Kampman next.

Kampman is gone to the 170 div, but Bisping, Marquardt, Leites, or Okami would all be good matches.

I'd really like to see him fight Okami right now. He has yet to face a guy ahead of him in the rankings, and I'd like to see how he handles Okami's unorthodox ground and pound. Plus, Okami is a southpaw, which would be another test for him.
Should be an interesting couple of months in the MW division, even with Anderson possibly taking a hiatus from being a 185er.

I think Maia being matched up with Bisping is the best course of action. I see Okami, Leites, and Marquardt outclassing Maia by being more well rounded. Bisping could beat Maia too but I see it being a closer fight with Maia taking it by submission

IMO Maia would work over Bisping faster than he did Quarry.

I say he beats Bising too. But Bisping is a much better test than Nate Quarry. The Rock is a very straight forward, robotic striker. I think that the Count's footwork and boxing (especially the jab) would ultimately be more problematic for Maia.

He's probably not quite ready yet, but he's getting close. His transitions, sweeps, and whizzers are amazing. It's between Jacare and Maia as to who is the best pure grappler in MMA. I thought his fight with Quarry would be a much better test, but he made it look easy. I think Maia's either two fights away from a title shot or one really big fight away in which he would have to beat a top level opponent.

Would like to see him fight Ricardo Almeida, that would be an awesome fight to watch.
After that fight on to Bisping and if he wins he should fight one from marquardt/hendo/okami/franklin to earn his title shot.

I think it will be Maia will face Bisping, after that onto Silva. I thiunk he will be Silva's next opponent at 185. With one more fight for each before that happens. Silva most likely at 205

The only fighters in the UFC I think would give Maia I hard time is Marquardt, Henderson, and Silva. I think he would sub most of the other guys.
