Current Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh "The Punk" Thomson is out of his scheduled title defense against Yves Edwards at the promotion's Nov. 21 event in San Jose, Calif. With less than two weeks until fight night, Denver's Duane Ludwig has agreed to step in and take the bout in Thomson's place.

Thomson suffered torn ligaments in his toe during training, according to a report by Sports Illustrated reporter Josh Gross. Strikeforce promoter Scott Coker confirmed to SI the news of the injury to Thomson and Ludwig's likelihood to replace him.

I think stylistically this is a good matchup for Duane. He has great stand up, and we saw the way that KJ Noons did on the feet against Yves. As long as Ludwig can sprawl, I see him knocking Yves out.

Bummer. At least now Edwards, provided he wins, will have actually beaten someone to deserve a shot at Thomson. But I'm a really big fan of Ludwig and hope he wins.

Ishida deserves a shot at the title before Ludwig or Edwards.

While I agree, and it would make for a better match in all likelihood, it seems pretty obvious to me that they're building towards an Ishida/Melendez rematch with the winner fighting Thomson. Of course, with Gilbert's contract running out soon...

Both Edawards and Ludwig have show some inconsistencies and I think they'd both lose a fight against Thomson, Uno or Ishida should have gotten the shot, more so Ishida, but when it comes to this fight, I think "Bang Ludwig" takes it.
