2 undefeated European welterweights will get a chance to make a name for themselves at UFC 93 in Dublin. Tom Egan and John Hathaway, both UFC newcomers, will meet in a prelim match at the event.

I really don't like the fact that the UFC is 'watering down' it's divisions with sub-par Europeans, just to sell more tickets when they bring their shows over here.

Yeah I don't get that the more locals they put on your shows the less top notch guys you get to see.

That's likely why they're on the prelim section and probably will be one of the first fights to go off. It's probably a bit of a tryout with the winner sticking around for another fight and by having it as an early prelim they'll go off before more of the "name" fighters are due up. But it's also a chance to showcase more local talent for the local fans...or given it's a prelim at least those dedicated fans who show up early enough.

Everybody has to start somewhere though. whos to say that one of these guys wont turn out to be a superstar? alot of people were also upset with the tuf fans and that forrest got a title shot. like dcrage said its a way to get more local talents showcased. going 1st or 2nd on the prelim isnt taking a spot away from rampage or shogun etc but sometimes the guys in these positions let it all hang out and stick around for awhile. i find it funny that on alot of the prelims there are not very many people in the crowd. i went to the silva vs rich in cincy and that place wasnt full but was very crowded and had a long wait to get in the place.

If you've watched Cage Rage then you've probably seen John Hathaway and let me tell you...the guy is no joke. Here's a video of his last fight...not super impressive but the slam towards the end of the fight is pretty awesome.

Tom Egan is a guy I haven't heard of. Found this clip and looks like he has some pretty decent striking, but I don't think he'll be able to keep a grappler like Hathaway off him.

It doesn't both me. Just because fighters are well known or "good" doesn't mean the event will be good. Just look at how dull "Stacked" was.

On a personal note, I would much prefer an event in Canada to feature a bunch of Canadian fighters, that to just be another event.

Just a ploy to put asses in seats. Plain and simple. I don't care just the way it is
