Although it was already announced that Mario Yamazaki would referee the Randy Couture-Brock Lesnar fight at UFC 91, it's now been revealed that part of that choice was because of Lesnar. He specifically asked the NSAC not to choose Steve Mazzagatti to ref the fight partly because he reffed Lesnar's fight against Frank Mir. Wish granted.

Steve does an ok job in my opinion. He has made some bad calls in his time, but overall I would not consider him a bad referee. He generally doesn't jump in too quick if a fighter is hurt and gives him a chance to recover and defend himself. I think he'll end up doing just fine. There was a time Herb Dean made some bad calls but he turned it around and in my opinion is probably the best referee now that Big John is gone.
Mario Yamasaki is also a pretty consistent ref from what I can remember of fights he has worked.

I think the Mazz bad call list has well over a dozen items on it now.
Some of the new guys aren't very good either, but they haven't had the chance yet to screw up as many times as Mazz.

Yamasaki is the worst IMHO.
Yves Lavigne is the best UFC ref in my opinion, at least in terms of stoppages

who would want Steve as your ref? He screws up everything, when Thiago Alves fought Karo he stopped that shit way to soon, the last punch that landed was in his arm

Yeah i understand why he wouldn't wants mazzagatti he had a big role for him loosing the fight he didn't warn lesnar about the back of the head shot. You always get a warning then deduct points. There should be no deduction of points with no warning like in that fight.

I don't mind him (then again it' smore because I liked th "mustacheagatti" he once sported), I think Lesnar's just biased against him because he probably thinks Mazzagatti ultimately cost him the Mir fight because of the stoppage and position reset due to the strikes to the back of the head and thus Mazzagatti, in Brock's eyes, will be more inclined to favor Couture in the officiating.

Brock should stop crying. He hit Mir in the back of the head at least 5 times. He knows the rules, stop complaining.

he warned him just the arena was so loud the overhead mic did not pick it up...
i did some sound editing at the time and he said it twice before he deducted points... if you go back and look at the 1:36 mark i believe you can faintly hear him say "stop hitting the back of the head"
