“Jake Shields in the UFC has now become a real possibility.”
GracieFighter.com posted this statement mere hours after Elite XC was pronounced dead. Shields is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Cesar Gracie who runs the Web site, so even as vague as this comment is, it’s still coming from a very close and reliable source in regard to Jake.
Shields — the first and only Elite XC welterweight champion — was pretty vocal over the last few months about wanting to prove himself against the best in the sport. In fact, after defeating Nick “The Goat” Thompson in little more than a minute at “Unfinished Business” in July, he called out the winner of the George St. Pierre and Jon Fitch UFC title fight scheduled for a couple weeks later, saying he wanted a super fight against the UFC champion.
At the time it seemed like a pipe dream since the UFC obviously doesn’t believe in cross-promoting and Elite XC had Shields locked up under contract for another year or so. But, now that Elite XC is no more, it appears Jake is a free agent, and would like to be the first — and possibly the best — former Elite XC fighter to join the UFC ranks.
Of course, if Shields does end up in the Octagon, he’ll have to work his way up a very long ladder of title contenders that include Thiago Alves, Josh Koshcheck, Diego Sanchez, Karo Parysian, Jon Fitch and many more.

It would be a good addition for the UFC WW division however i don't see Shields winning against any of the top 8 right now. And calling GSP out was a pure joke A LA NICK DIAZ !!!

I would love to see him in the UFC. I love seeing top fighters come in and see how they do against the UFCs best. Should be fun to see who the UFC grabs up after elitexc's fall.

I agree, his striking is so sub par, he needs to polish that before he's ready for the top guys in the UFC, or even Carlos Condit.

I just hope they don't try to unify the belts . Seriously, Sheilds could be a decent add, but i dont think he would ever make it to a title fight. The talent pool in the UFC is very deep. hopefully we'll get to see

Like I stated multiple times I can think of about 6-7 figthers he will loose too so he difinitly needs to work on his stand up before he is ready for the elite

He's already beaten Carlos Condit...as well as Yushin Okami.
He's a better grappler than Jon Fitch and Diego as he has beaten both in grappling tournaments..Diego at the ADCC an Fitch at the Gracie Open.
There's a lot of guys that have sub-par striking...or just striking that's not really great. Diego Sanchez, Josh Koschek, Karo Parysian, and Matt Hughes. None of those guys really have a level of striking that is that much better than Shields and they're doing fine.
It's something he needs to work on, but I think the WW division isn't exactly overflowing with guys who are well rounded. Most of the WW's have a really good base, and they're working at getting more well rounded.
I think Jake is top 5 and he'll prove it in the UFC.

And I think Condit would win, he's the one who needs to be in the UFC.
I do not care of Condit has lost to him before.

Wolfenstein makes a good point, but all the names he listed have stepped up their striking game leaps and bounds except maybe Hughes. And I feel Shields will have to do the same to get in the title mix in the WW division. If he does come to the UFC and improves his striking as Kos and Diego have he will definitely be in the mix. Shields can out grapple anyone in the WW division right now except maybe GSP imo.

Shields has already beaten Condit. great fight btw
Right now, I think Condit knocks his dick in the dirt. The only WW I see beating him is GSP. Condit would trash the UFC WW division.

I don't care for Shields, I guess him in wec would be good and wilson Reis as well. I like Rafeal Calvancanti coming to the UFC as well but not Diaz, Lawler or any other failed UFC fighters coming back.

I'd also like to see Dave Herman in the UFC to help bolster the Heavyweight division. He's a very interesting prospect.
