Sherdog has a good piece about Fabricio Werdum and his plight outside the four man heavy weight title tournament looking in:

“I didn’t like that they put Brock Lesnar against Randy Couture,” Werdum said. “I think that it would be fair to put ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira against Couture -- it had to be a fight between these two. Despite having been champion once, I’ve not found it fair that Frank Mir is fighting for the belt. I had two great victories where I was very superior to my opponents, Gabriel Gonzaga and Brandon Vera. I’ve won by myself -- not the judges.

“So I think I would be the one to fight against ‘Minotauro’ or Couture, the winner between the two of them, for the belt. I’ve imagined that I would fight for the title in March. Let’s see what will happen. I hope to do my part fighting against ‘Cigano.’ I won’t underestimate him. I will win. It will be by knockout or a finish. I won’t give any opportunity for bad luck.”

ye werdum got screwed. hes been lookin awesom and took out the last 2 title prospects. mir took out some guys with shitty juijitsu and almost got slaughtered by one of em. did get slaughtered by vera who werdum stopped.and its him and lesner who get the title shots. lesner lost to mir and descisioned heath herring. herring is good but not good enough to have everyone go OMG he beat that guy so he deserves a title shot. when A.Silva smashed leben in 46 seconds thats what everyone thought, not this time. werdum is gettin screwed because hes not well known to americans and tuffers and everyone knows it

Absolutely true! I think (and have for a while) that Nog vs Couture should be the title fight considering Randy has the belt in a way. Then if you want Mir in there have him fight Werdum for the #1 contendars spot. Werdum has earned it!!

Well,,,,,Tito refused to fight Chuck, so Randy stepped in. Thats not whats happening here. Everyone here, I think, is willing to fight anyone win lose or draw. But yes, Werdum deserves a shot. But if he loses against Anderson Silva/ Nog Brothers trained Jose in his upcoming fight, he cant say nothing.

I don't know why he feels left out, if he wins his next fight he has the #1 contenders spot and will get the next shot

He's conveniently leaving out that he lost his fight with Arlovski and it was an abortion of a match at that.

Still, he's the #1 contender after the tournament is over.

Blame it on your name, Fabricio.

Nobody (casual fans) knows who the f*ck you are. Sorry, but that's how the game is played.

It's sad too, because fighters like Fabricio and Machida won't get title shots until they take out every other contender, because they're not marketable.

Exactly. It's a business before it's a sport 100% of the time.

I'd hate to believe that but its the dead honest truth. And its another reason y the UFC isn't shutting their doors like EliteXc
