While the mainstream public was unimpressed with the recent MMA-based movies Never Back Down and Redbelt, based on box office receipts, there will be another such offering in 2009. Filmmaker Gavin O’ Connor is currently in pre-production in Pittsburgh, PA, preparing to move forward with a project entitled Warriors. O’ Connor’s most recent work was Pride and Glory, starring Edward Norton and Colin Farrell, which hits theaters this week.
MMA Fans may be familiar with the name Gavin O’ Connor, as he was the Executive Producer of the widely acclaimed film The Smashing Machine, which focused on the rise and fall of MMA star Mark Kerr. Smashing Machine is widely regarded as the finest film that focuses on the MMA world to date.

I just hope they show the real aspects of mma. I hate when they have a person who is weak, and then all of a sudden, after training just a few weeks, their an expert. It's ridiculous. They need to emphasize all the training that goes into being a great mma athlete. They need to focus on all the vigorous training and all the pain that is gone through in order to improve. I"m sorry, but you can't just start practicing, and become a black-belt in a matter of a few weeks or couple of months. It seems most movies portray it this way, and it makes me so mad I could punch the pope.

Ha, thats because this generation loves the idea of earning anything they want with little sacrifice. MMA however is the opposite as it takes much determination and years of training to even become a accomplished fighter.
Hollywood perfers the idea of a montatch (spelling) where the kid suddenly gets emerced in the "cool new thing" (which makes it a teen movie) and begins training through a 3 minutes scene with music in the backround. By the end of the song, he is suddenly the best in the world. Never Back Down was a pile of **** and made MMA into a teen movie of the month

I never saw Redbelt but NBD was stupid. They took a sport of pure class and made it look brutal by giving it a street fighter anybody can do it as long as they have an 80's montage song playing in the background. Then every fight was perfectly choreographed, nothing about it was realistic at all, someone would have a solid ass armbar and the other guy would counter it and it looked just like pro wrestling, plus in the end scene where they were slamming each other on the cement was pretty terrible, even most fighters wouldn't get up from something like that because their spine would be severed.
