Mired in the center of controversy for several months, former EliteXC lightweight champion recently told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he could have saved the organization substantial time and trouble.
After all, Noons offered to give his title back.
"I gave (EliteXC) five days notice, before I was stripped, that I wanted to give the belt back and be released from my contract," Noons said. "Then they stripped me without even (telling me) -- I found out on the internet. That was I guess (EliteXC) trying to prove a point, I guess you could say."
After refusing to accept a September bout with lightweight contender Nick Diaz -- citing financial concerns and a desire to fight a more-deserving competitor -- Noons was stripped of his title by way of an EliteXC press release. Noons said he has remained quiet about the saga while trying to continue negotiations for his EliteXC return.
"We were talking," Noons said. "I was hoping the Nov. 8 bout was going to happen. We were going to redo contracts or whatever, and hopefully I could fight Nick. But they're already moving forward with that. Once I found out Saturday night that [EliteXC] was moving forward with [a Diaz vs. Alvarez fight], I'm moving forward over here."

After all that BS and being released from his contract i hope no other organization picks him up.......Him not taking the fight with Diaz was pretty weak in my opinion....

So now he "gave" the belt back huh?
Sounds a lot like "you can't fire me...I quit."

Well I don't care for how EliteXC does biz but KJ and his manager brought this on themselves. They forced them in a corner and his fighting career will suffer because of it. This had to be the dumbest move his manager and him could have made. At least Vera was smart enough to get away from Dion. Dion has to be the worst manager in the history of MMA. Because of how this was done by his manager and KJ he will be lucky if he is able to get a fight in any worth while org. Whats even funnier is KJ doesn't seam to understand how a contract works. He seams to think he can just walk away and fight where ever he wants.
Way to go Dion you got your fighters title striped and made him unmarketable to any real organization. At the same time you missed a chance for your fighter to be on national TV fighting as a Champ.
DION

He's not a free agent I thought?
It's not all his fault, the Shaws are to blame for not honoring his contract that called for them promoting his boxing career.
I hope he goes to one of the Japanese promotions.

that's no excuse for picking and choosing your fights. None of those excuses came out until after the threats of being stripped and the public lashing he took. He was just claiming Nick wasn't the top contender up until all of this other crap happened. If he had refused to fight for the company period and given these reasons from the start maybe it would be believable, but he only dodged one fighter while offering to take other fights and offered these excuses only after the shit hit the fan. Sounds to me like he was just trying to backpedal his way into public support.
-edit- He claimed to be a free agent, but I don't know if that's true or not. Maybe EXC still has him under contract, I know that he made claims of being a free agent though.
