Reports that former UFC champion Frank Shamrock volunteered to replace his adopted brother, Ken Shamrock, in the main event of this past weekends Saturday Night Fights on CBS are indeed correct.
The news was confirmed in a press release issued by EliteXC late Wednesday night in which the promotion’s Head of Fighter Operations, Jeremy Lappen, stated that the reports were true.
“… Reports that Frank Shamrock volunteered that evening to fight Kimbo Slice are true,” Lappen is quoted as saying in the release. “Frank is a competitive fighter and he was willing to step up for his organization and the MMA fans. His offer was very greatly appreciated, but everyone in the room knew when he made the offer that it wasn’t a realistic possibility on such short notice.”
Some of the hurdles standing in the way of a Slice vs. Frank Shamrock fight could have been the ability to get Shamrock medically cleared on short notice; work out a compensation package that EliteXC’s shrinking budget could afford; and obtain consent from Slice’s camp to accept the fight.
As dangerous as Seth Petruzelli was to Slice’s perfect record, Shamrock would have been an even greater threat. Slice’s camp was able to negotiate a $500,000 payday for him to fight Petruzelli on short notice and it is likely they were in a position to command even more against the younger of the two Shamrocks.

I'm on the hate side of that equation, but I agree, gotta give him props for being willing to fight a guy that much heavier. He would have whupped the hell out of him too, would have exposed Slice-bo even more clearly to the ignorant non-MMA fan

Wow. They negotiated to half a million? So, that wasn't the original fee. How much was he supposed to get paid to fight Shamrock?
Whatever it is, I doubt more than a couple fighters on the UFC payroll get that. I know eliteXc fighters don't get nearly the same in sponsorships as UFC fighters, which is apparently a big part of their net worth, but Kimbo probably did pretty damn good on sponsors as well. I wonder how rich Kimbo is, compared to someone like ... Anderson Silva, or Nogueira?

No matter how they paid their fighters, it is going directly to their losses, i think Elite/XC are already at minus 30 millions now !! lol
The question is how long before they got bankrupt ??

I have never been a big fan of Lil Shamrock. I think if Frank beat Kimbo it would just allow Elite XC to turn around and make a circus freak out of Frank Instead of Kimbo.

Elite XC wasn't going to give Frank the shot at Kimbo anyway...They wanted the least possible chance of Kimbo losing. What they failed to realize is that the only real chance Kimbo had of winning that night was to pull a fan out of the seats and have them throwdown in the boat yard.
Thats ok though...IF Elite XC makes it to the next event (and thats a big IF), I'm sure we'll see it in the boat yard anyway.

wow, they could have really marketed Frank Shamrock as their "golden boy" if there would have been a way for Frank to take this fight. It did them no good whatsoever to let Petruzelli fight Kimbo. They could have really marketed the rematch between Frank and Tito.

I'm glad Seth took the fight. Frank would have just taken a dive to promote another Elite XC fighter like he did with Cung. Frank wants Elite to do well so bad he'll do whatever it takes. The UFC has no interest in him so this is his last chance. If Elite folds up then Frank's career is all but over. Elite probably didn't give him the fight because Seth was cheaper and they thought that Kimbo could atleast KO a low to mid level 205 pounder. LOL...what a mistake, they should have just come off the money and had Frank take another dive.

Your a clown Frank Shamrock doesnt take a dive for anybody. He lost that fight because he was arrogant and stood with him. Frank beat himself.
