That’s certainly what it sounds like in this radio interview. Two thirds of the way through the interview there’s this exchange:

M: Even though you only had an hour to get ready for this fight against kimbo, what was your strategy fighting against Kimbo, uh, err, uh, were you tryin to uh, submission him out?

SP: My original plan was to throw a lot of push kicks, called teeps, and try to rush in more, and then shoot in on him, obviously.

M: So you wanted to get him on the ground? There’s no way you wanted to box him standing up?

SP: Not really, but I train with lots of undefeated pro boxers, a couple guys have a belt, and my style kinda throws them off a bit, I have kind of an awkward style. So, I knew I would do alright standing up with him. THE PROMOTERS KINDA HINTED TO ME, AND THEY GAVE ME THE MONEY TO STAND AND TRADE WITH HIM. THEY DIDN’T WANT ME TO TAKE HIM DOWN. LETS JUST PUT IT THAT WAY.

M: Ahhh.. ok.

SP: It was worth my while to try and stand up and punch with him.”

Seth will win.

He's going to Russia to train to get away from it all.

If you don't want fights to go to the ground then your in the wrong biz. Stick to boxing and leave MMA alone. This is just short of trying to fix a fight. I cant say I'm shocked at all after Kimbo's fight with JT which was very shady to say the least.

UFC pays "bonuses" for KO's regularly, I dont see where this is something remotely shocking or shady at all..

The UFC also give bonuses for submissions as well. The bonuses they give are for KO of the night and Submission of the night. They don't favor one over the other.

There is a big difference EliteXC was trying to dictate where the fight happened. They where trying to give Kimbo a better chance of winning the fight because his ground game is very very lacking. They were basically trying to affect the out come of the fight in their favor.

Whats wrong with Elite XC? I think they put a great card, and I think with merging with affliction, they will pull more names and share a huge peice of the pie with UFC, and maybe someday bypass it.

I enjoyed this card more than the last UFC event. Just an openion, I hope no one takes it personally.

I can't believe Seth bit the hand that feeds him but at the same time Elite XC shouldn't be doing that. yeah we all know every org has their "underground" but they need to stop protecting Kimbo and just let the mma do the selling. Everyone is always looking for more free mma on tv. They don't need to oversell it and protect fighters. Only if they knew that......
