The admins have been working hard at revising and expanding the forum rules. Please take the time to read them. These may get revised further, but take the time to read them now. Further changes will be announced.

Forum Code of Conduct

Failure to adhere to the below behavior guidelines will result in having your forum posting and mailbox privileges taken away, either temporarily or permanently (depending on the severity of the situation as decided by moderators and/or administrators), or even having your account completely deleted. You may or may not receive a warning depending on the severity of your foul and the moderators unbiased judgment of the situation. Deleted/deactivated accounts are not eligible for any prizes.
PLEASE NOTE: We made these rules for a reason. You may not like them all, but to be a member here you have to follow them. If you have trouble adhering to these rules, then perhaps stick to posting in your fight camp message board or messaging your friends on the website via the Private Message (PM) system. These rules may sound a little strict, but are in place for the purpose of keeping the MMAPlayground.com community atmosphere a friendly, respectful, mature place for MMA fans to enjoy their fighting passion.

1. Do not engage in name-calling, threats, exchanges of insults, or intentionally rude behavior towards fellow members. It's 100% fine and normal that you don't agree with another member's comments, and it's completely fine to state that when done without insults. People may post things that are common knowledge, are answered in a pinned topic, or have already been posted many times before. If you care to reply, do so without the use of profanity or a condescending tone. It's old-fashioned, but remember your parents saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". The purpose of having an online community is to have a place for a close-knit group of fans to talk about the things they love (in this case, MMA).

2. Blatant performer bashing (fighters, referees, promoters, etc) will not be tolerated. Stating your opinion in a factual, non-profane manner is acceptable. Example: "I don't really like [fighter name]", "I don't agree with the call that [referee name] made", etc. Flaming/libel is not acceptable. Example: "[Fighter name] is an utter piece of crap", "F*** [fight promoter]! He/She is a walking turd!", etc. Try putting yourself in a fighters place, having worked and trained hard to get where you are, having put your body and health on the line for the entertainment of others, and then imagine reading a forum topic where people who don't even know you are calling you a piece of garbage. "Least favorite fighters", "most overrated", and "fighters you hate" are thread topics that promote fighter bashing.

3. Posting content: Do not post copyright protected pictures or video clips of events, or even share them via the mailbox system. Do not post anything pornographic or indecent in nature that could be found offensive by any of our members, including avatars. Please respect the rules of other websites in regards to posting content on public forums. Refrain from sharing links to pictures, videos, etc, that are not supposed to be shared publicly, are not legal, and/or violate the terms of use of the source website.

4. Spoilers: Do not post event spoilers under any circumstances (except for any forum marked as a "spoiler" forum). Be considerate of other members that may not have access to view an event in their country until after you do.

5. Do not engage in any commercial activities on this website without permission from the site owners. This is not a free-for-all to buy and sell MMA paraphernalia, gear, and DVD's, nor is this the place to promote your MMA game, blog, website, or anything else. If you're a company interested in advertising your products to your users please contact us and we will help you set up a customized ad campaign for a reasonable rate.

6. Do not do any "postwhoring", which entails posting numerous one word replies, posting useless small pieces of text, or participating in things like word association games in an effort to drive up the number of posts you've made.

7. Do not be a forum troll. No one likes forum trolls. Forum trolls are users who post things that are either absurd or insanely stupid for the purpose of annoying / riling up other members. Do not troll. Trolls are bad.

8. If you have a question about something please do a search first to see if the topic has been touched upon recently before starting another topic.

9. Do not post in all capital letters, all bold, or in l33tspeak. This annoys people. Don't annoy people.

10. Please check the first 5 pages of the UFC/Pride forum, and the first 3 of any other forum for a related topic before you start a new thread. We only have so much space, and would like to keep the discussion going without people having to constantly repeat themselves. If you add your thoughts to the existing thread it will refresh to the top of the front page. DO NOT start a similar thread just to make sure people see your post so that your thoughts gets special attention.

11. Do not post explicit content: pornography, semi-clothed "hot chicks" threads, cannibalism, gore, snuff films, amputations, surgeries, or any thing else that might be offensive to regular folks. If you think that parents would not want their children to see, don't post it. We have many young members and parent/child players on the site. Just because its in the Padded Room forum doesn't mean that our young ones won't go there. There is no shortage of other sites and communities you can visit for the aforementioned topics. "Fail", "Pwned", and any other similar threads frequently get out of hand as well with one person trying to top the next, so just don't make them.

12. Do not give advice (or boast) on how to engage in illegal activities. Drug recipes, crime strategies, and anything else that is explicitly illegal has no business being discussed here. Do not advocate rape or child molestation. If you think these things are funny, we suggest you seek professional help.

13. Do not engage in wild conspiracy theory's about fixed fights on the forums. Unless an athletic commission convicts someone of it, or BOTH FIGHTERS in a fight openly agree that it happened, it need not be discussed here. There is no advantage to be gained by discrediting the sport you love, which is the reason you are here in the first place

14. Do not post your OPINION as a FACT. Two facts: "water is wet", "the sky is blue". A non-fact: "Jon Doe will beat Joe Blow and you all know it" when they have never even fought before.

15. If you have a problem with someone breaking a site rule the best thing to do is come to the moderators with it. Attacking them back yourself, which may be breaking site rules in the process, only adds more fuel to the fire. If someone is PM-ing you, and you don't wish them to, just put them on your PM blocked list. If they attack you on the open forums, it WILL get them in trouble have no fear. Practice the discipline and self-control of a martial artist by resisting the temptation to retaliate and letting the mods fire back for you with a ban or suspension instead

16. If you have a problem, correction, or suggestion please contact the ADMIN. Starting a thread designed to attack a moderator or anyone else who runs the site is rude and counterproductive. Insulting the people in charge won't help your cause. The moderators work here for free, because they care about this site and are devoted mixed martial arts fans. They are also humans who have feelings, and are bound to make mistakes from time to time. Trying to embarrass them when they spend a lot of unpaid time making this site habitable for all is a fruitless activity. Starting threads about banned members and attacking the sites moderators for banning them on the open forums is also prohibited; let bygones be bygones.

17. If there is a scoring problem with an event, first check the MMA Playground Game Talk forum before e-mailing us. Often there will be a thread on it, with explanations for the difference in what happened. If there IS NOT a thread on it, then by all means e-mail us!

18. Do not post uncredited or unreliable rumors on our forums. Yes, even the major mma websites get things wrong from time to time, but they are generally reliable. If they are proven wrong we will remove the thread when we find out.

19. Do not post all your picks in a thread, and ask others to do the same, until an event is locked. We area all competing against each other, so why you would want anyone to know all your picks? Often the people who post these threads are just begging to see what others think because they are undecided themselves. It doesn't make a lot of sense to help people who are not in your fight camp to beat you.

20. The fight camp forum is for recruiting members, not attacking other fight camps. If the purpose of your topic is to belittle another camp on the site, don't post it. A little friendly rivalry is fine, but we have zero interest in hosting group e-flamewars.

21. Only one account per person, period. If you create multiple accounts they will all be deleted.

22. Don't bump threads just to point out you got a pick right.

Wow. I am a bit affriad I am going to make an error. This seems severe. especially the profanity issue, name calling, and number "14. Do not post your OPINION as a FACT. Two facts: "water is wet", "the sky is blue". A non-fact: "Jon Doe will beat Joe Blow and you all know it" when they have never even fought before."

I think the language one uses when stating a clear opinion, e.g. The Browns will win the superbowl." should not be criminalized. It is harmless and clearly future tense. Doesn't that imply that it is an opinion.

For new rules that are very serious about what kind of language we use, they don't take tense shifts very seriously.

I love this website. I repsect the need for increased rules and more sever punishments, but I don't want to see people becoming timid in their posts for fear or reprisal. I think the name calling, profanity, and other language issues should be curbed.

After all this is something we all feel very passionate about, and thus the words we choose will reflect that intensity and emotion. I think our posts will become more more boring with those rules, as well.

do these rules also apply to the padded room & locker room?

I would assume yes, after all in The Padded Room it does say "Forum rules of conduct still apply here".

#9 should also apply to thread titles (even the News forum). Seeing a thread title in all caps really annoys me and makes me not want to look at the thread.

11 no semiclothed women????

What, all those Gina pics aren't good enough for you? I think that rule was overdue, despite their intent all those "hot chicks" threads just wind up causing more trouble than they're worth.

No worries, guys. Just keep on doing your thing and don't let anything get too out of control.

After last week's blow up on the forums the rules just had to be defined a little better. As long as I'm a mod I will ALWAYS reason with posters first unless they're already on thin ice, are completely out of control, or are a known troll.

We're certainly not the Taliban

Why is this a "rule?" What's so illegal about people posting their picks?? Let them be idiots and give out info. if they so choose. It's only going to hurt them in the long run of the game. Plus, a lot of people may not see it as "oh no... I'm giving out my secret info." Some people are just friendly, and like to help others out. I would probably never do it in the open forums, but I'm ALWAYS willing to give advice through PM.

I understand and agree with most of the rules...they need to be there, but from now on I will be very carefully watching my step, knowing the ax could be coming at any moment...

Are we getting rid of polls?

Most of the polls are :

BLah Blah Blah will win?

Now we have to say:

You think BLah Blah Blah might win?

I mean is there a difference. If you want to have more reasons to ban idiots, just say if you are being an idiot we will ban you. This is Taliban-eque, actually it is more Patriot Act-esque.

I am worried. I was banned for a week, and I STILL have no idea why, and upon e-mail I was told I was not banned for a week. That sounds like double speak to mean. This sounds a little Orwellian all around.

Brave New Website I guess.

PS. I am cool with rules, some of these are good. Some of them are CRAZY! Can Is still say that? Is that mean, offensive, or one of the others.

Agree, I dont think discussing or posting your picks should be against the rules from pretty much the same reasons as stated above. Its not something i'd do, Some people have different views on the game, and each plays it differently, some people like discussing and sharing their picks with other, and they mainly play the game for fun. And for those who do play the game to win $ and rather not show their picks, i dont see how other people doing it can hurt them.

The fact vs. opinion issue is not to be taken as literal as in the rule. That example is to dumb it down as much as possible to ensure everyone will understand. This mostly comes into play regarding comments made about fighters, forum members, etc. This is to help curb people's posting habits so they they don't piss off other people by making false statements (which technically are considered libel). As an example from my own personal experience. I get upset if someone quotes me and says that "Rush is an idiot", but if they quoted me and said, "I think these statements are incorrect" or "I think these statements are idiotic", then it's not the same. Just like there is a difference between calling a fighter a "roid head" compared to saying "the fighter was accused of doping" or "I think **fighter** is doping"

I mean, most of the stuff written on the forum wouldn't last 2 seconds in a peer reviewed article, let alone even a blog. You would be sued into chapter 11.

6 how else am i gonna build my post count?
7 see 6
9 dont annoy people....that'll get broken by damn near everybody
11 no semiclothed women????
12 sucks
13 is no fun
14 isnt fair bc my opinion 99.9% of the time is fact
22 WTF??? how else am i supposed to let everyone know i got my underdog pick??????

btw, how come i wasnt contacted on these changes?
no PM, no email????

For most of the comments, the rules are more in place because it makes it easier for us mods to make objective decisions regarding problems in the forum.

as for #22 - the rule is not to bump the thread for the sole purpose of gloating (which pisses people off). If you bump it and contribute to a stimulating discussion, then that is fine. I mean, if there was a heated discussion about picking an underdog over a favorite, anyone that participated in that discussion will know you were right anyways. I don't see the problem.

Posted by DCRage

What, all those Gina pics aren't good enough for you? I think that rule was overdue, despite their intent all those "hot chicks" threads just wind up causing more trouble than they're worth.

Gina is a fighter. As long as the thread is not solely made for the purpose of talking about how hot Gina is, then there shouldn't be a problem with that.

Posted by CantAndleDaRiddum

but doesnt anyone find it funny that a predominantly male website has a rule that u cant post pics of "semi clothed" women?????

Because like other things, people just can't stay within the confines of the purpose of the thread. There is a "hot chicks" thread in every forum out there and free porn is ubiquitous on the web. We don't see the purpose of making that type of thread here. If people still can't handle it, here's a suggestion: Before logging on to the playground, surf some porn, jack off, finish, get cleaned up and log on to the playground.

You're right, there is nothing wrong with it, but from personal experience, I can't stand it when someone logs on and posts a topic asking people for their picks, but offering none of their own nor do they contribute to any part of discussion. If someone is stuck on a particular pick, then by all means, ask what other people think, but IMO, if you just post a thread asking for peoples' picks, then you are just trying to cause trouble. Besides, you can see the whole playgrounds' distribution of picks in the stats and data section. Statistically, they are more accurate than a dozen people that post in the forums.

Regaqrding polls, well, polls should be questions and the selections are answers. I didn't think it was that hard to understand. ?????

See my response to the first quotation.

As for being banned, there is nothing on your profile that says you were banned or given a warning, so I don't know what you are talking about there.

Thanks and no worries.

The basic philosphy I try to go by is best explained by a quote by Soren Kierkegaard

"People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use."

So the advice I would like to throw out there is this. Think before you speak/type.

I'm going to play it like this.....

I'm going to post just as I always have....
Make my picks just as I always have...
Lead my camp just as I always have.....

If I get banned the rules are too strict
If I get warned I will probably conform
If I here nothing then the rules are rules (No Big Deal)
