The long-rumored heavyweight superfight between UFC champion Randy Couture (16-8 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and WAMMA champion Fedor Emelianenko (28-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is currently being discussed for an as-yet-unspecified date in January or February of 2009.
Sources inside Couture's Xtreme Couture camp today informed MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) of the ongoing negotiations between the UFC and both fighters.
The fight is far from a done deal. Many of the same issues that prevented Emelianenko from signing with the UFC during previous negotiations must still be ironed out. But it appears that the UFC and representatives for both Couture and Emelianenko are working towards bringing the two legends together for a Feb. 2 bout.

Let's pray this is Randy's next fight. Lesnar has too good a shot at being a spoiler and dropping a lot of the hype for the fight.

See lesnar better not fight couture, because i think couture will get beatdown by lesnar and then no one will want to see lesnar vs fedor. but i think fedor would smash randy also.
If randy would have just finished his contract, he prolly could be closer to fighting fedor instead of having to wait till next year. Instead couture is going to get a new contract with the UFC for like 3 fights haha.

What a super-dee-duper day.
First, my Buckeyes thwart Youngstown St 43-0.
Then, Meeeeeeeeshigan loses to Utah (ahahahahaha!)
Now, Randy is coming back, and he is going to fight both Brock Lesnar and Fedor AT THE SAME time! That has to be it. It wouldn't be fair any other way. Might as well throw BJ Penn on his back. Nonetheless, he would still gnp all of them at the same time.
Plus, Illinois is losing.
What a day, folks, what a day.

I think its unfair for couture to fight fedor if he can't beat lesner too because fedor is the best in the world and randy still needs to show that he is in the same league as fedor, and i still argue that he needs to fight nog and if he beats all of them and retires he is a legend

Question.....What happens to the title...the belt? Winner against Randy should be champ, but can't with Nog in the way. Then winner fights Nog for Undisputed HW Champ? Seems backwards. I would think that Randy should have to fight in order.....Nog for title....then Fedor. Afterwards, have Lesnar fight Werdum so champ defends title against #1 contender. Besides if the UFC can in any way gain Fedor, Affliction will fall. All the HWs will head right back to the UFC where they belong. That is to include Barnett, AA, CC, and anyone else that I am forgetting. They way I think it should be is definately not the way it's going to happen.

I don't know why the UFC wouldn't make this fight. With all the hype it will put up big numbers. One superfight. Superfights between organizations a possibility? Very rarely.

Randy may have won the belt, but the UFC is allowed to strip their champions of their titles. It's not like it's set in stone that it's Randy's belt. Randy is no longer the champion, Nog is, the belt shouldn't come into play at all. The UFC also doesn't care about or even recognize the legitimacy of the WAMMA belt.
There shouldn't be any confusion really. It seems like the UFC is realizing that this fight is going to happen one way or the other, so they might as well be the ones to do it and prevent Affliction from gaining high-profile status while they still have control over Randy, or at the very least to put him against someone they believe can beat him to remove the hype surrounding the fight if they aren't able to get Fedor.
I'll bet if they're able to get Fedor (which I doubt) they won't match Randy against Lesnar beforehand.

I don;t think they were talking about the WAMMA belt. They ment the PrideFC one. Henderson got two straight title shots for being champ so it would be odd not to give Fedor an instant shot.

He wont be able to fight Nog because of TUF. thats why they are looking for other opponents, it isnt something they can just scrap, or wait for Nog and Mir to fight since by that time it would already be 09.
