As he was finishing up his promotion of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito fight, which by all accounts was a nice success for his company (Top Rank Inc.), boxing promoter Bob Arum was heard to say, “It’s tough selling tickets in this economy. The UFC guys say they sell out but that’s bullshit. What they do is give away the tickets and pay the 4% tax so they can say it’s sold out. Trust me, it’s not.”

Arum made reference to what he said was the UFC’s “business model,” which included not only misrepresenting the ticket sales for the sake of image, but also its monopolistic practices.

not sure if he knows exactly what he's talking about, i was at ufc 83 and there was not one empty seat, thinkin he has the roles reversed as affliction was buying their own tickets and has barely any of the better fighters. just another hater in my eyes, i would be too if the ufc was steamrolling my business too.

what part of "they give tickets away" dont you understand?....

Im not saying he's right or wrong, but thats what he meant

just because there is an ass in every seat doesnt mean they paid for it

I don't know I went to a show and there was a empty seat right next to me

Also why can't I find these FREE tickets so I can just pay for parking

UFC 90 has already brought in 2 million dollars worth of revenue. I'm pretty sure that the UFC might give some seats away but it's not to the degree that this guy is talking about.

cough cough cough.

Guess what Dana used to be? A boxing promoter.

Just so you know Arum's numbers are massive compared to the UFC numbers. The DLH v. Pac fight will make the next three UFC events look like the freshman b-ball team v. the redeem team in profits.

He's talking about comping tix. It's common practice for all entertainment events. It's where radio stations and tv stations and mma news sites and charities get tix to give away/auction off/have contests for etc... Concerts, boxing, everything does it. That is included in the official numbers released: how many are sold, how many are given away, are any left over.

LOL oh man I understand you don't like the UFC we all get that but come on the UFC numbers are just as high or higher than any boxing event. There has been only one boxing event to pull better numbers in the past 3 years than the UFC and that was De La Hoya vs Mayweather (which was a mega fight). I bet you anything that if they get Randy to fight Lesnar the numbers for that fight will either beat it or be very close.

Top Rank PPV numbers with ONLY Manny Pacquio:
v. Morales 360,000
v. Barrera 355,000
v. Diaz 400,000
v. Marquez over 400,000

That's for ONE fighter in Top Rank who only weighs 130 pounds.

I'm not even including the Cotto fights or the Margarito fights. Those guys were close to the 400-500,000 buys and they are for non heavy weights.

Average UFC PPV
range anywhere from 200-400,000 buys and the cards are stacked with fighers.

This year Arum will end with a super fight between Pac and DLH. That will pull in about 1 million buys. UFC has never sniffed that and can only dream it.
Of course, if they ever got Randy v. Fedor they could or if Brock v. Randy happens they'll get 600K maybe. Then if Brock wins, they'll be 1million for the Fedor fight.. Book it.

well let me clear the air about the facts. UFC 86 had 520,000 PPV buys, and no UFC since UFC 80 (not that UFC 79 was, just that i have the list from UFC 80 to UFC 87) has ever been below 225,000 PPV buys. UFC 87 had between 500,000 and 600,000 buys, and the low points of the UFC buys were shows in England, which still show impressive numbers for a Saturday afternoon live event (again, even the England shows never dipped below 225,000 buys).

some other notable UFC events with PPV buys:

UFC 66 - Liddell v. Ortiz - 1,050,000
UFC 61 - Ortiz v. Shamrock II - 775,000
UFC 71 - Liddell v. Jackson II - 675,000
UFC 60 - Hughes v. Gracie - 620,000
UFC 79 - Liddell v. Silva - 600,000
UFC 68 - Slyvia v. Couture - 540,000
UFC 74 - Couture v. Gonzaga - 520,000
UFC 62 - Liddell v. Sobral II - 500,000
UFC 65 - Hughes v. St. Pierre - 500,000
