my favorite event every summer Olympics is Judo. obviously i am a fan of grappling and Judo is a beautiful art that takes great discipline and skill to master. i find it very exciting to watch and i wish they would focus on it more than say race walking. i feel as though i need another thirst quenched though when i watch the Olympics, because although i love to watch Judo, i still feel like i'm missing something. i think that something is Sambo. i would love to see Sambo in the Olympics. make it the same rules as the World Combat Sambo Championships. Combat Sambo is in the middle of Judo and MMA as it incorporates both striking and grappling. i know it would be hard to get Combat Sambo into the Olympics since it involves striking, but it is so fun to watch and there is the option of finishing your opponents with submissions. you can win by either submission or points scored so it is not llike anyone would be KOed with a punch. i just think this would be a good sport for the Olympics to adopt and if someday they do, then it will be a foot in the dorr for MMA. what do you guys think?

Pretty much agree with everything you said.
Only thing is that Sambo is still largely Russia's national sport. Its far from an international sport, not many countries besides Russia practice this art. So thats one of its biggest obstacles, it will never be considered to become an olympic sport if its being practiced largely in only one country.

I can see Fedor and Alek taking the gold and silver that would be amazing but there is prob like 50 dudes who are crazy sambo guys better then fedor and alek's. I know they both compete but have not clue how they would match up in the olympics.

I definitely see striking as being the sticking point. I could realistically see Sport Sambo making it into the Olympics though...at least before Combat Sambo anyway.

I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure at least 24 countries have to be able to field a competitor in a paticular sport before it can be considered in Olympic sports. Pancration was supposed to be included in the 2000 games but they couldn't meet that quota, so I'm assuming Sambo would have similar difficulties.

Actually Fedor has won the World Sambo Championships for something like 7 years running. Last time the event was held, two out of his three opponents didn't even bother showing up. He basically owns Sambo.

Definately a favorite. No Gi sub grappling will probably make it to the Olympics. There are a bunch of qualified competitors world wide (where Sambo fails).
I wish Sambo would come to all the different countries. It's pretty much a different form of MMA with safer rules. And it's also one of the top 3 MMA styles out there. BJJ, Sambo, Catch Wrestling

Of course I would like it in the Olympics but it would come with a laundry list of "ifs", and I have a feeling I would disappointed with the end product.
It would make sense to have the same rules as the World Combat Sambo Championships, but that would never happen just like it would make sense for baseball to have the same rules as in the unified rules for world competition. The problem with the olympics is that they come up with their own bastardized version of rules and what you are left with is a lolli pop version of what used to be a good sport now surrounded by controversy and horrible scoring/judging decisions.

They could use Freestyle Sambo rules which are similar to ADCC submission wrestling.
