it's official, Elite XC is the retarded stepbrother of MMA.
first you have KJ Noons, a Champion, calling the shots and turning down fights
then you have ridiculous presentations and a direction that no fan of MMA wants the sport to go in
and now you have Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock...it is just starting to get sad really

Hope for Ken's sake Dan Miargliatta isnt reffing
*Ken takes Kimbo down - fight is stood up 10 seconds later due to inactivity - camera flashes to hot chicks dancing around and back to Ken who is now asleep *

I could really see this happening with a EXC card

From a money-making stand point, this is probably the best fight EXC could have made for Kimbo. Big name hasbeen against the most popular fighter they got. Cry all you want about it, but this fight will get more people tuning in to EXC on CBS than Kimbo v. Brett Rogers. Plus, Kimbo has a good chance of losing to Brett. If Kimbo loses, EXC loses.
Instead of focusing on the obvious negatives, I think of it like this: If this is the fight that has to happen in order for me to see for free on network television what is going to be a good undercard, so be it. If people tune in for Kimbo vs. Shammy and catch any of the great fights on the undercard, I believe it's probably a good thing for MMA.
In 1970 the Steve Miller Band had Miles Davis opening for them. Real serious music people thought it was BS that Miles, the greatest trumpeter of the day, would open for a no-talent hack like Steve Miller. Everyone who was "in the know" knew that the opening act was far superior to the headliner. Thing is, most people were not "in the know", and were turned on to Miles by going to see Steve Miller.

No question this is purely ratings. Lots of people will be like, "Oh i've heard of Shamrock and Kimbo" who will watch it that don't tknow anything about MMA except that it's "like that UfC stuff right? "
I'll watch it for free, especially if KJ noons quits crying and fights Diaz.

Lame fight in my opinion. Shamrock couldn't even beat a now retired Buzz Berry. Now I have to see him fight Kimbo and get slaughtered? Nothing like rubbing a hall of famers name in the dirt. You know I could see this as a Gary Shaw trying to get one up on Dana White. Since obviously Ken is going to be in the UFC hall of fame. Shaw can then say Kimbo beat a UFC hall of famer. Which is lame for all of us real mma fans know that. But for the new comers they don't know.

IMO, Ken's only hope for a W would be to get a takedown and leg lock in the first minute of the fight. I bet Bas will be working on leg lock defense with Kimbo if he is to fight Ken. Other than that, this is an easy KO for Kimbo.
Despite that, it's a better fight for Ken than Kimbo. Ken can possibly prevent a career from fizzling out by taking out a popular fighter. However, Kimbo has nothing to gain from the knowledgable fans from beating Ken, other than another W on his record.
I agree and disagree
I agree that kimbo gains nothing from the knowledgable mma fans
For the casual uninformed mma fan this will be Kimbos biggest victory, and it will also keep his name in the spotlight for another 6 months.
I remember watching UFC 60 with some friends of mine who casually watched mma. They seriously thought Royce Gracie was going to destroy Matt Hughes, and were shocked and confused when they saw him get completely manhandled.
Smart strategy by Elite XC, it sure isnt gonna help his fan base when it comes to mma fanatics like us on the playground, but as of right now there just isnt that many die-hard mma fans to please. That will change eventually though.
