It's looking more and more unlikely that BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre will happen this year as originally expected.
First, St. Pierre publicly stated his need for a rest on a blog he posted for the French Canadian website RDS.ca.

I don't know if I'll be stepping back into the Octagon before 2009.

I've fought four times in the last 12 months. I therefore need some rest. I like the life I lead, but I sometimes need to relax.

It's not the fight as such that's exhausting; it's all the preparation that comes with it. I've made so many sacrifices to prepare myself. During training camps, I practically do not live anymore. It's therefore on a psychological level that I need to recharge.

Now JD Penn, BJ Penn's brother, is stating that Penn is training and expecting a fight sometime in December, but that the fight in question will likely not be against Georges St. Pierre. Instead, the two UFC superstars appear to be eying a return engagement in February 2009 as part of the UFC's Superbowl card.

They should call off the Stevenson/Florian fight and have BJ defend against Florian.

Good for GSP, I could understand the need for time off.

I wonder if Penn plans on fighting at WW still. Nothing else makes sense with the LW contenders tied up atm.

BJ should then defend his title against Kenny...that's the only thing that would make sense here.

If penn fights florian in december he would have a little over a month to prepare for gsp on superbowl weekend.

I just want to see Penn fight more. He could fight twice before he fights GSP again. Make it happen

After Florianwho deserves the next shot I think this might be a little better for the LWs cause we now know who is the #1 contender so let this fight happen then BJ GSP the rest of the LW can figure out who is next Im thinkin Sherk will work his way back up in that time or if BJ wins Sherk might just take another vacated LW belt by beating whoever

Give him Florian... he would take that fight by domination by the way. I don't really like BJ, but he's a hell of a fighter and at LW with his cardio better I can't see many guys if any at all beating him. (Except GSP)
