One possibility if St. Pierre decides he can't go is Chuck Liddell vs. Anderson Silva. That, fight, however, also has a few obstacles in its path. Liddell is fighting in September, so assuming he wins, he’d have enough time to recover. But Silva is competing on Oct. 25 against Patrick Cote. He’d have to come out of that match unscathed and take a fight with only two months to prepare against Liddell.
It might seem far-fetched, but Silva has voiced a hope to fight more frequently, and mentioned back in June that he hoped to have three more matches in ’08.
For those of you who may have not heard these fights are being considered as back up plans if Georges St.Pierre does not fight BJ Penn.
One other interesting little rumbling that we have heard are that Cain Velasquez may also fight on this card, the problem is not many people are stepping up to fight the former Arizona State wrestling sensation. There have also been rumors of Brock Lesnar's next opponent who may either be Gabriel Gonzaga or Cheick Kongo. We will bet on Kongo as Gonzaga seems as the more legitimate threat to a Lesnar title run that the UFC could profit heavily from.
We have also heard Kenny Florian vs Joe Stevenson, which would be a clash of titans at lightweight. Now keep in mind none of these rumors or speculations are confirmed and are to be considered loose talk at the most. We will keep you up to date on anything we do hear as time goes on.

If Liddell doesnt get hurt, Forrest vs Liddell I think is more likely.

Liddell will not be fighting Silva, it doesnt make any sense at all. Liddell is working back towards the title, they wouldnt match him with Silva who mostly goes out of his division for a challenge. I guess if they wanted to put Silva in immediate contention for the LHW belt then maybe.....but I dont see it happening anytime soon.
Besides.....everyone knows Liddell would knock that motherf@cker out
Actually Liddell has a great style to beat Silva but its a matchup I would have liked to see when Liddell was a few years younger......
WAR LIDDELL....whatever happens
(been a while since I did some nut huggin.....feels good)

Hopefully Shogun is good for decemeber, Coleman or Soko would be good for his comeback fight

Hmmm I was goin more with the excellent counter punching and power.....but sarcasm is a great counter to reply with
No doubt he would have to keep his hands up but Liddell actually has very good footwork when he uses it......hate on though its all good.

Liddell won't accept the Anderson Silva fight, no doubt about it. He wants the LHW title back, and he knows thats not a good fight for him to take.

I really hope A. Silva and Liddell doesn't happen. In my opinion it's a lose lose situation. If Silva wins, Liddell climb back to the title picture is all but gone. If Silva wins, he just goes back to MW and defends his title. I don't see him challenging for the LHW belt until Machida gets his chance.
I hope Florian vs Stevenson happens. It should be a great fight, and is a tough one for me to pick.

I think I'd have to pick Kenny over Joe, by sub in round 3. Now Chuck v Silva doesn't make sense at all, but to speculate I think Silva would get a late 2nd KO victory.

I actually think Liddell Vs Silva would be one of the most bring fights to ever happen. Both aren't really known for pushing the pace and its much more likely they'll just throw jabs and wit for the other to get frustrated and rush in or make a mistake. Liddell does have the power to KO anyone with one punch but Silva looks to have a pretty solid chin. I say keep Silva at MW if Chuck wins let him fight Forrest.
I'm much more excited about the possibility of Kenny Vs Joe! That would be a war!!!!

Good God would I like to see Florian vs. Stevenson! Screw Huerta, if a fight with Florian is going to be fight of the year (as if that would ever happen) it would be this one.
I can't even fathom how good this match would be! Florian would finally lose again and Joe can have another fight back towards the title! Wow...
GSP vs. Silva at a catchweight is near impossible, Anderson walks around over two hundred and struggles to make middleweight let alone 180 or 177 or something along those lines.
I want to see GSP vs. BJ so much, but if GSP wasn't 100% I don't him to fight just like if BJ wasn't 100 I wouldn't want him too either. Either way there's going to be controversy but two healthy fighters makes things easier.
