According to Bryan Alvarez, the UFC has still not found an opponent for Cain Velasquez at UFC 90:
UFC sources say that despite reports of Cain Velasquez vs. Antoni Hardonk for the Chicago show, as of this morning, there was no opponent for Velasquez.
Dave Meltzer recently noted that they are having a lot of trouble finding people to take fights against Velasquez. He is very good, but he has no name value yet, so fighters don't see any upside in facing him.
Fabricio Werdum, the number one contender, is supposedly booked on this show against Junior dos Santos. This fight really makes no sense at all, it's a guy that is barely known to UFC fans against another that is completely unknown. If Werdum is the top contender, he should fight Velasquez on this show.

Give him Gonzaga or Kongo!
Kongo is going to get owned by one of the following in the very near future: Cain, Shane, or Brock. His future is not looking good.
I think it would be very interested in see how well Cain can adapt his game to a submission fighter. I think Gonzaga/Werdum whould be a very big step up from his previous competition. It may very well be a stumbling block if it happens. Either way, it would be a great learning experience and building block for his career.
The UFC is probably wanting to protect him a little, so I'm not sure if either of these guys will actually happen. But Cain is young enough that there is plenty of time for him to bounce back if he takes the loss. I'm a big fan, and I want Cain to succeed, but I'm hoping the UFC lets go of the reigns a bit here.
Bring'em on!

I think Kongo would be a good test for Cain and give him a name. I'm not sure he is ready for top level BJJ guys just yet (AKA Nog, Gonzaga, Werdum). I rather he stay under the radar for a little while longer as he keeps making me real money every time he fights. But I think in a year or two he maybe the HW champ.

Absolutely. For a new player in the game, hes already incredibly dangerous. I want to see how he does against someone with subs on their back, and I want to see what his gas tank looks like, as no one has really tested him in those areas, but he has the potential to be very dangerous. I can't blame people for not wanting to fight him, and I think Hardonk knows he has little chance in that fight, as good of a striker as he is.

Brock Lesnar is always waiting. lol.
Umm, I've wrestled Cain before, he waxed my ass like no other. So I'll be picking him no matter who he goes up against. However, I think Lesar has the highest chance of defeating him, so I doubt that willo happen. I think they should offer Eddie Shancez a paycheck.
...either that or pit him against Shane Carwin...although that seems to be a lose lose situation.

Once TUF 8 ends you need challengers to Nog (or Mir) every three months. The heavyweight division has to be kicked into overdrive after this layoff.
Werdum, Carwin, Kongo, Velazquez and Lesnar should be somewhat protected to be those challengers, although maybe not in that order.
Have a #1 contenders fight at some point to knock one of those 5 out of immedate contention, but otherwise give them middle of the road opponents.
This belt is in desperate need of building up.
EDIT - I forgot about the loser of Nog/Mir. Obviously that guy will most likely deserve another shot within the next year. So that's six legit guys.

Personally I'd like to see Carwin vs Lesnar. ....actually I'm not a huge fan of either yet, but i think the outcome of that fight might change my mind.
Sanchez vs Cain.
hmmm...
meh. likely. but not thrilling. Cain would walk through him. I suppose they might as well "build" him up, considering the HW division is so stacked. *sarcasm*

Give me a Lesnar-like contract for one fight and I'll fight the guy.

So much for the "warrior spirit" of MMA fighters. This is what happens in boxing all the time.

Is it just me or this seem to be an increasing problem in the UFC lately? Fighters getting picky about their opponents. Nobody wanted to fight Machida, nobody wanted to fight Lesnar, nobody wanted to fight Anderson Silva at LHW, and nobody wants to fight Cain.
UFC.com only has 18 fighters listed as under contract with the UFC so how many different fights do the other HW's think is out there?
Since Kongo didn't sustain any damage in his most recent fight, and he's talking about title shots, they should stick him against Cain. Maybe they could manipulate him into the fight by saying, "Hey well a true champ will fight anyone. So think of it as a test."

I think the UFC is saving Kongo to fight Brock... so why not Mark Coleman? It would be a good win over a big name for Cain.

That's dangerous because Coleman is one of the few who can negate Cain's wrestling. Cain would win after Coleman gassed though.
