Inaugural EliteXC Welterweight Champion Jake Shields will make his first title defense on 9/20 against John Alessio. Alessio is coming off a June fight where he won but also suffered a broken arm, but it appears he'll be good to go in time for this fight.

I think John takes this fight, probably by submission in the 2nd or 3rd.

I don't know, Jake's a submission specialist himself and he's never been submitted (all but 1 of his losses are by decision). And you do have to wonder about Alessio's arm, plus the last guy to submit him didn't exactly get lucky-just some WEC guy named Carlos Condit.

this ends in the first rd most likely by submission but i wouldnt doubt a tko either, even the allesio is tough....allesio has the edge in standup, his boxing is legit...but on the ground shields is on another level, and its about 3 levels above allessio

Shields by whatever he wants. Alessio isn't THAT good, and Shields is far better.

i think alessio will give shields a lot better fight then his last few opponents. alessio has had some good fights with some tough dudes the last 2or3 years.
shields has more tools in his belt and i think takes this fight.

UPDATE: The fight is off. Alessio will not take the fight at this time due to the injury, and Shields may take a fight at 185 in another promotion next pending EXC approval. This fight may still happen at a later date.
