To be honest with you I think it could be just as successful, if they are smart about it. They need to quite paying there fighters so much for starters, and they shouldn't have live bands plaaying at their shows, thinking it will draw a bigger crowd because chances are it won't. I'll give them props for signing some good LHW, and HW's but they need to go after more fighters in other divisions, they should be trying to sign Gomi or Yamamoto, Filho, Arona and those are just some of the fighters they should be after, they are going to sign Tito it's practically a done deal if it's not already, and they most likely will get Randy. Now the only other thing that bothered me about Affliction was the refing which I thought was poorly done, the only one that did a good job was Herb, and he's just getting used to the ring, I think the ref's need to watch some Pride tapes and see how the ref's ref there. IMO Affliction could be just as successful if not more successful than Pride, and could give the UFC a good run for it's money.

no, pride had a tv deal and tons of crossover wrestling fans that followed fighters that were pro wrestlers as well. 3 of the guys you mentioned will not be fighting for them any time soon. kid and gomi are signed in japan(kid:dream/k-1, gomi WVR) and prefer to fight there by all accounts, and filho is zuffa property so that wont happen. dream is the one to watch as a pride replacement, they have the talent and built in fan base to last a long time.

People don;t understand that Pride was as much if not more successful as the UFC. They operated in two very different markets, and Pride was able to absolutly thrive until they lost their TV deal due to a stupid action on their exec's part. I don't know how successful affliction will be, but they need to change their ropes from the boxing to the Japanese ropes and not pay Tim 800k.

It's too early I would say to tell, but I would say no as of now.
PRIDE imo,was the best MMA organization their's every been, but it took PRIDE 3-5 years before they really became the "established" powerhouse fans remember them for. Affliction is going to have a rough road just putting on 3 shows.
I think though, even if Affliction fails as an MMA promotion, the impact it could make on the world of MMA may last a very long time.

Exactly I mean where the UFC is now, thats where Pride was in Japan. You can't even compare the two at the moment and I think in the long run you wont be able to compare them at all so I think its a definite no.
I understand why the question is being asked but its like comparing single A to the majors at this point in time I really can't see it being that big when they are paying guys that much money and aren't going to get that money back through anything.

A lot of these other organizations could be as good as Pride, they are all stacked cards with familiar fighters , makes MMA look pretty awesome
