This past Saturday's "EliteXC: Unfinished Business" event in Stockton, Calif. -- the second EliteXC event to air on network TV via CBS -- had a large and energetic crowd of spectators.

But few of them -- less than 33 percent in all -- paid to be there at the Stockton Arena.

Of the 8,541 tickets the organization printed for the event, just 2,871 were sold. A total of 3,701 were given away, and 2,023 "deadwood" tickets went unused, according to paperwork the California State Athletic Commission today sent to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

This past Saturday's event drew a live gate of just $268,715. A total of $340,960 in tickets were comp'd, and $206,155 worth of tickets went unsold.

Needless to say, the numbers are hugely disappointing.

Yeah Stockton California, who would have thought they wouldn't sell any tickets there?

I don't know Stockton...but that was my thought too. Couldn't they find a better location?

Maybe I'm an optimist, but I think they put on a better show and had a higher overall viewership rating than the UFC replay (1.9 versus 1.0), If they can weather the storm moneywise, they'll do fairly well.

Are the tickets really that important to a network TV show?

I'm sure they were counting on more than that, but the TV deal is where most of the money has to be coming from, right? I haven't really researched it, but that'd be my guess.

I'd rather them give Kimbo a fight against someone real so he gets hulk-smashed before he leaves.

haha...this actually makes me chuckle a bit, because even tho the EXC has put on some good fights, they seem like they are in MMA for all the wrong reasons. THey have several good fighters on the roster, and i think it's a shame that they are trapped so to speak.

With the lack of a buzz surrounding this show I figured it wouldn't live up to the dissapointing CBS Debut (Which got good ratings even tho the show was substandard), But these numbers are just laughable. How the hell do you give away more tickets than you sell? The TV ratings weren't the worst I've seen, but given the fact it was on CBS, it was severely disappointing. I'm sure UFC 84's replay on spike had alot to do with this, as that broadcast of 84 had a whole bunch of post fight interviews and locker room acess that the PPV never shows. The UFC should make this a habit, as it's a different kind of show than the PPV. And what's sad is that i think that could hurt EXC even more.

I think the first show really hurt EXC, cause this show was better, but nobody wanted to see it after watching the first one. And given the fact that Kevin Ferguson is the Cornerstone of an organization that has lawler, silva, diaz, noons, sheilds, Carano, cyborg etc, it's clear that A)They are only in it for the money, and B)THey will sacrifice the integrity of MMA to get it.

And because of this, I give EXC one, maybe two more shows before CBS Cansels Saturday night fights and Sells the company, persumably to Zuffa

I would like to state that I do live in Stockton and there are several reasons why many tickets went unsold.
1) Very little advertising and short-sighted planning for the event. I only knew this event would be in Stockton from the ads on this site. Kimbo and Carano were there for a meet n greet but even that was a last minute implement. There was significant news coverage after the event, but the promoters should have been involving the local media as soon as they locked the venue.
2) Although MMA in this area is steadily gaining in popularity, it is still a relatively new market.
3) It's EliteXC. Casual fans identify MMA with the UFC brand and unfortunately for them, the name that draw thier crowds was sitting in the audience.
4) Ticket prices were somewhat high for this promotion. The arena is about 10 minutes from my house, but I didn't want to pay for what I was able to watch for free on CBS. Had this been a PPV event, I may have reconsidered.
5) This area was hit really hard by the mortgage crunch due to rising housing prices attributed to people relocating here from the Bay Area. Many people may simply not have the disposable income for MMA, especially a second rate organization and as I alluded to already: the event was televised free.

If the UFC does but out EliteXC they would be some great fighters to join the UFC.

Kimbo Slice
Robbie Lawler
Jake Sheilds
Nick Diaz
KJ Noons
Antonio Silva

Thats off the top of my head but that would set up some interesting fights.

Man bro sounds like your making excuses for this its not the cities fault little promoting doesn't mean anything plus with local fighter fighting I mean I regularly see small shows with washed up local fighters sell out 5,000-8,000 seat arenas all the time hell the arenas arn't even around Denver and they still sell good maybe MMA isn't big in that area who knows but in the end it looks like another MMA org is digging its own grave
