Days after Aleksander Emelianenko was forced to withdraw from Affliction: Banned due what the CSAC termed as "failing to meet all licensing requirements", heavy rumors persisted that Emelianenko had contracted hepatitis B and could possibly be forced into early retirement.

Aleksander spoke out today about the real reasons behind his dismissal from Affliction's inaugural event and addressed rumored health concerns in an interview with Life.ru
Below is a brief description of the interview:

I would think he would have come out earlier to dispute claims that he had hepititas. That's weird, but great news. Hopefully we could see him in the next show then.

That seams crazy, so CSAC can clear Gary Goodridge in a half a day but cant clear Aleksander Emelianenko with 5 days. Does something seam a little off about this or is it just me.

Hell yeah. Screw CSAC and their BS. It's not the first time they pulled this kind of crap.

What's worse is apparently someone told Affliction that is was OK. Watch the weigh-in video and when it was his turn and there was a delay, you can hear some cross talk and a guy says " What? I thought they were going to let it go?"

No flippin' way they would possibly let Hep B go. Next card is in Vegas. Screw Cali (sorry to any Californians on this site, but Vegas isn't too far)

That's a pretty good point... I wonder if they cleared him earlier, as a just in case back up option type thing?

It's ended. he got the visa. It was just two days late. If you've ever dealt with embassies, you know this isn't isn't surprising.

I was thinking the same. With 8 HW's on one card, they might have had more than one guy on stand-by for any last minute injuries or problems. Also, this is his initial application, Gary is probably already licensed.

Gary Goodridge was brought in because he was supposed to fight on a different card in San Francisco that got canceled a day or so before. When they needed someone to cover for Aleks, they called him because they knew he had trained and had his medicals and everything done.

As for the interview, I'm a bit skeptical about this. This is the same guy that claimed he made up all his tattoos and that if they looked like Russian mob tats, its only a coincidence. Most guys wouldn't just come out and say, "I've got Hep B." Marco Ruas retired from fighting because he had one strain of Hepititus and didn't mention it until he came back.

Yeah, i hope he's not lying about this.

If all is well, i'd like to see him fight Ben Rothwell at Affliction 2

I dont know it stills smelss fishy to me. I'm pretty sure that I would have everything ready so i could fight the biggest fight of my career. At least the most watched of his career. Either way i hope to see him fight again soon. He is a great standup fighter.
