Look at any recent picture of The Pitbull Alves and you will know he must have a hell of a time gettingdown to 170...
So it got me thinking what if he fought at 185???
The Champ is Tougher but the weight class is weaker
I say if he wins the 170lbs title hey should move up and take on the Spyder
I'm not that big of a fan of his so please hold back the Nuthuggery commits, but syles make fights and I would like to see it
I would atleast love to see him KO Bisping

alves i personally believe would get steam rolled at 185!!!!! he could never beat bisping........alves better jus look out for diego thats all i know....... bcuz even if he gets by there he'll run into georgie and that wont turn out good for him.......i dont think u will see georges st pierre lose that belt for quite some time now!!!!!!

He would prob get a shot fast with all the dumb delays the WW has been facing. I like him at WW. Its a stacked division and earns his a bigger name faster.
WW Contender- Jon Fitch MW Contender- Patrick Cote
See the difference?

That was a good joke. ALves, who ko's argueably 2 top 5 WW's, would not beat Bisping? I only wish they would fight so i could bet you my house on it.

It would certainly be easier to make weight. He would do very good, but ya know GSP and Anderson Silva are the champs at the weight classes, and he probably wont beat either one of them. I am a huge fan of Thiago, and whoeve said he could never beat bisping is just plain wrong. That would be a really entertaining fight, and Thiago might just destroy Bisping.

I dont see why he would do that he won't champ in any of these two weight class so might as well stay where you are well established

I'm not sure he'd do very good at 185. He would be a smaller 185 and the guys with longer reaches (which would be most) could pick him apart from the outside. Plus, it's already easy for 170 guys to take him down. Imagine how easy it would be for 185 pound guys to take him down.

In a recent interview he talked about this and he said he's too short to fight at 185. I agree because a lot of guys in the 185lb division are 6'2.
I think he should start trimming his bulk down. If he were a little thinner he would probably be faster and he wouldn't gas as easily. He walks around at over 200lbs. It's just too big a cut. He should be walking around in the low 190's.

MW is just a eclectic division in terms of styles that i think he would do worse.
Right now he is the great striker, great sprawl guy in a division almost entirely wrestlers. This makes very good match-ups for him.
In the MW division though you have a little bit of everything and hes loses his size and strength advantage.
If he moved up to 185 he could be a top ten ufc MW, but not a top ten MW world wide.

He would get smashed. He would have a huge reach and height disadvantage. I would take franklin , silva , bisping, cote, lutter, marquart , henderson , kampmann, mcfedries , leben, riviera and okami all over alves in a fight. I think he's in the right division.
