I was wondering how people think the UFC's counter-programming went over. Personally I think they rushed the card in an attempt to shut Affliction down, but for the people watching both of them I think it ultimately just helped to show that Affliction can be a great promotion if it gets off the ground. The UFC card was kind of un-spectacular IMO other than edgar vs franca.

I guess we'll see what the PPV numbers look like within a few days, but I think that the comparison might actually end up helping Affliction more than hurting it. I know that I'm a lot more excited about the next Affliction card than I am about any of the upcoming UFCs.

What does everyone else think?

Oh and try to give your answers without letting out any spoilers about either card.

Only the last 2 fights saved UFN from getting a thumbs down from me. Good on paper, but not in the end result. A good part of it put me to sleep.

I watched Fight night when I got home from the Affliction PPV and I was just really glad in the end that I watched Affliction.I don't know what the numbers or anything will be,but I agree that the UFC card did seem a bit rushed.I thought it was great to see Vera and Silva fight, but I prefered watching Barnett,AA,and Fedor

I don't see how fan could really complain though, considering we got 2 cards in one night. That alone is pretty cool.

I don't know. Before I left the forum last night there seemed to be more people talking about UFN than Affliction.

With that said, I thought the UFN card was pretty stale. I was bored during half the fights and the other half were so one sided they were over before I could really get into it.

I still stand by what I said before, this UFN card will have little impact on how Affliction does. Affliction will succeed or fail because of how the company is run and marketed, not because of the UFC.

I'm kinda glad in a way that the UFC card turned out very lookwarm - at least it highlighted that the Affliction can put on a competitive show and indeed a better quality of fights.

I've been watching the UFC for years now, it got me into MMA really, but they have to realise that people want choice and to monopolise a sport does not benefit the sport or it's participants.

I sincerely hope they don't pull this crap again for the next Affliction card.

I watched both shows last night and I must say, overall, I liked the Affliction card better.

Affliction:

- A few more exciting fights
- HUGE names
- Great fight endings...
- Pretty good production

The only thing that kind of bothered me was how one-sided most of the fights were... Some of those guys weren't even close to being in the same league as their opponents

UFC:

- Great production, as usual
- Nice seeing Silva clobber Irvin
- Nice CB/Taylor fight

Other than that, it was quite stale, to quote someone from before. That can be expected though when they try to throw a card together so quickly! Man there were a couple of BORING fights!

Great first show Affliction!!! I only hope they earned enough money to stay alive... I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Yes, but your all comparing a half assed/quickly put together UFC card vs a well planned Affliction card. I'd like to see how well the two compare against your normal PPV UFC card.

Which only happened because the UFC tried to poach customers from Affliction.

We simply don't need two large organisations going head to head - the lesser organisation, in this case Affliction, will only lose out and potentially suffer as a result.

The main losers in this scenario are MMA fans.

I would have to say both cards had a few good fights and a few snoozers. But I think we watched more Affliction than UFC, flipping back and forth throughout. Seemed like the Lindland fight was in slo-mo from the get-go.

I would rather have watched Affliction, mostly due to my deep hatred of Tim Sylvia. Not to mention, UFN was a snooze-fest aside from the Peruvian Necktie, the headkick KO and Anderson Silva's destruction of The Sandman.

Im sure it helped stop mainstream viewers from thinking of Affliction at all. I switched between both and was glaf Fedor/Sylvia was after FN was over. Affliction needs to work on their production quality. It felt like I was watch the fights from the last row of seats in the stadium. It ticked me off. FN happened to have a lot of exciting fights but AA/Rothwell and Fedor/Sylvia were great too.

Either way, I won cause I saw both.

If someone said you can only buy one dvd, A) The Affliction card or B) any UFC event I would pick Affliction. That was an amazing card, and I would put it head to head with nearly any card, possibly even Final conflict 2005.

the card turned out to be a disappointment but just the fact that they put it on was a good move. free ufc will draw casual viewers over dishing out 40 bucks for an org. they haven't heard of.

I watched both( Tivo is a godsend) , but I will say we won't know how much it affected Affliction until we see the PPV numbers. If they can pull 100, 000, yes I know that snot much compared to the UFC regular 400,000's , then I think the UFC will have a viable competitor. People like us were going to watch it. They needed to grab the casual fan to make themselves a legitimate threat currently IMO.
