Pretty much ANY "rock" band thats out there today. You suck. Give your mom back her make-up kit and quit "playing" guitar and screaming like a 14 year old girl. Its such a shame that guys with such phenominal talent like John Petrucci, Alexi Laiho, Zakk Wylde, and Dave Mustaine, all get ignored because they play a type of music that appeals to maybe 15% of the population.
Specific bands?
Avenged Sevenfold, and the nuthuggers who think M. Shadows is the greatest thing to ever happen to the world, and that Synyster Gates is the best guitar player ever. HE'S NOT, AND HE ISN'T. Deal with it, they are both HORRIBLE at what they do. Gratz, you scream uselessly into a microphone and sound like you have crap, LITERALLY, coming out of your mouth. And Gates? Not even gonna touch that, aside from, he's the most OVERRATED guitar player ever, and when people put him on a Top 10 Guitar Players list and leave out guys like Tony Iommi, Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Yngwie Malmsteen and the such, it makes me absolutely SICK.
Dragonforce too. They seem to be the casual rock fans favorite "metal" band. Everyone who watches MTV and their neighbor sees one Dragonforce video or plays their song on Guitar Hero(which totally ruined them, gave them WAY too much exposure for my liking)and all of a sudden Herman Li and Sam Totman become gods. They speed their garbage up in studio, and they can't play for crap live. The biggest test for a band is to play their music live, make it good and keep the energy up. When your playing your songs SLOWER then they should be, your in trouble. Quit nuthugging, and accept the fact that Herman Li is FAR FROM the best guitarist out there right now, let alone ever.
Quick apology, music is a subject that I take very seriously, being a musician myself. Just my opinion, if you don't like it, too bad.
Do you actually play guitar, or are you a product of guitar hero?

I do play real guitar, but I also enjoy Guitar Hero, but moreso Rock Band. I've always wanted to try playing drums, but they are way too noisy and I've never had the money. So as soon as Rock Band came out, I instantly became hooked on playing the drums. But, I had wanted a guitar for a number of years before I got it, but my parents never got me one. So eventually, Guitar Hero comes out, and I'm pretty good, and tell my parents, all I want for my birthday is a guitar. So, for my 15th birthday, they got me a guitar. But why would it make a difference if I play guitar or am a Guitar Hero baby, would that change the way I percieve music?

It would change the way you perceive guitarist as a whole. Meaning just because you can't play a band on difficult doesn't mean they aren't up to par.

With all the arguments for who is a better grunge band the most important grunge band got left out. THE MELVINS! I also hate AC/DC with a passion.

You remind me of myself a few years back, but if you diversify your musical taste and broaden your horizons you will see that Alexei Laiho, Zakk Wylde and Dave Mustaine dont have anything like "phenomenal talent", but Petrucci is a very well versed musician.
I agree with what you say about Avenged Sevenfold and Dragonforce, but the names "Yngwie Malmsteen" and "Stevie Ray Vaughn" don't belong anywhere near a top 10 guitarists list. Not in terms of skill or knowledge, they can't play anywhere near as well a load of guitarists and both of them have (had in SRV's case) a very limited knowledge of composition.
In no particular order, a true list of the most skilled and knowledgeable guitarists should contain these names...
Steve Vai Tony Macalpine Shawn Lane John Mclaughlin Alan Holdsworth Pat Methany Frank Gambale Al Di Meola Devin Townsend Paul Gilbert

It's your perception of talent. All of the guitarist you have named are without question some of the best on earth. However once again talent is opinionated. There's no set of standards to signify your excellence in guitar playing. Every single guitar player of exceptional skill level can mimic every other guitar player. Originality is a huge factor. Solo musicians such as Vai, Satriani, Eric Johnson, etc.. have a limitless canvass to showcase their musical aptitude. However guitarist who are in a "band" have to pick and chose to showcase their talent. I agree with you that all of the guitarists are extraordinarily talented but sweep picking, and memorization of numerous absurd scales masked by countless effects doesn't make you the best. Guitar is funny because you can argue talent. I'm not sure if you have ever heard of this guitar player but check him and his story out it's pretty interesting. Jason Becker.

Jason Becker is a sad story, but at best was a talented neoclassical shredder, and little more.
You can "argue" talent for sure, but you can't argue that my list contains the most technically, compositionally and improvisationally talented guitarists we have yet heard. When you consider that those 3 criteria really make up what could be defined as "skill" then its hard to argue that they arent the 10 best in the world.

I agree. Talent is all about opinion. Although, I will give credit where credit is due. In my mind, Dimebag Darrell is the greatest guitarist, ever. Period, end of story. You will never, ever, ever change my mind about that. But, that is because, he is the single biggest influence in my life. So to me, he is the greatest. But to the general population, he isn't, and thats ok with me.
Jason Becker is amazing. My friend Justin showed me a bunch of his stuff not too long ago and I was absolutely blown away. Watched a 20 minute guitar clinic of his and for every single second he had me going "WHAT THE F**K WHAT THE F**K YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" Sad story, amazing player.

How does your list include Vai and no Satriani? There 1a, 1b to most people anyhow.Originality is my prime additive to determine talent, and until someone comes along and just completely boggles me, I will continue to lump all of the solo performers into one group. My personal favorite guitar player of all time is Slash. He's nothing special at all, but it's preference. You can poll the world's top guitar players and there will never be a universal number one. You simply can't argue who the best guitar players are because there are so many who aren't famous. You have basic blues, jazz, bluegrass, country etc... so many different genres that it make it impossible. You can come to a concussion of the most respected guitar players but never a universal number one in talent. If this were 1979 and you said Eddie Van Halen is the most talented I would probably agree. Why? Because he came along and was original. He laid the ground work for Vai and others. While Vai was dabbing with Frank Zappa and Sat was teaching Mr.Hammet, EVH was doing things unheard of at the time. It's preference and respect over talent , simply due to the diversity of all guitar players and the yet to be determined set of standards to anoint said guitar players as the best.
