After making his light heavyweight debut against James Irvin at next week's UFC Fight Night 14 event, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (21-4 MMA, 6-0 UFC) will return to 185 pounds to defend his title against top contender Yushin Okami (22-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC).

Ed Soares, Silva's manager, confirmed the plans while a guest on today's edition of TAGG Radio (taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

However, Soares said that a date for the Silva-Okami fight won't be determined until after the July 19 fight with Irvin.

I hope he wrecks Irvin quick and fights on the Birmingham card in October.

Dana actually said Silva was looking to fight Okami at UFC 88, which IMO is better, the closer the better if you ask me. But would be great too, especially since that card is lacking a solid main-event.

I agree, this would look good at UFC 88. It's turning out to look like an awesome card just needs a good main event. Chuck and Rashad is an ok co-main event, but not a good main event in itself. Plus you know I'm just not a big Chuck fan. Mostly I'm looking forward to seeing Rousimar Palhares and Yoshiyuki Yoshida again.

I hope Okami pulls off the upset... but he's got nothing on Silva. I'll route for the underdog though.

Id assume cote gets the next shot. Okami has been in line for the shot for a while now.

Cote is not ready for Silva anyway.....I think Okami would be a much better fight, probably less exciting, but a better fight.....
