Dana White mentioned recently that he was planning something special on July 26; the same night that CBS/EliteXC airs it's second event. If you guessed that something special was counter-programing then you were correct.
The UFC has just announced that they will be airing back-to-back showings of UFC 84. For those that missed it the first time, it was likely the best MMA event of the first half of this year.
The card was stacked with great fights that lived up to the billing. Even the under card was fantastic.
Below is a look at the card:
Main Card: - B.J. Penn vs. Sean Sherk
- Keith Jardine vs. Wanderlei Silva
- Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Reljic
- Lyoto Machida vs. Tito Ortiz
- Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes

84 was great, if it weren't for the two(three) title fights I'd watch the first airing, I'll definatley catch the second

They make a free show for Affliction, and show a rerun for Elite XC. That's funny. Personally I'm not going to miss Robbie Lawler and Smith to watch a repeat. Although I might flip in to see that flying knee to the liver by Machida..awesome.

Do you also think Wal-Mart should be concerned about the growth and success of other retail stores and not the growth and success of their own brand?
It's a smart move for ANY business. I don't understand why people bash Dana and the UFC for doing exactly what they should do.

The reason being Dana is always talking about how he wants to help grow the sport.. it shows he does not really care about the sport just his own pockets....

Family ALWAYS comes first. The UFC is Dana's family. You have to do what's best for your own company or it could bite you in the ass.
I'm sure Dana DOES want the sport to grow. That doesn't change the fact that he's got a business to run first.

exactly I mean do you think if Elite XC was in this position they would not do the same exact thing the UFC is doing? All is fair in buisness and War. And trust me if Affliction or Elite XC could do this they would do this.

I think the point that is being missed here is the definition of growth of the sport.
I personally think that the growth of MMA is the same as the Growth of the UFC. I personally don't think the UFC needs that much competition. The NFL doesn't have it and it works just fine.

Hardly unexpected, really, but you can't expect it to eat to much into EliteXC's performance. I mean, the Silva vs. Irvin card is a live, free event so that could be a real downer for Affliction, but this is just a re-airing or an old (well, not old old) event, so I doubt it will have a huge effect.
