its kind of funny how one great striker can give an entire one-dimensional division fits.

It really is, the funny thing is this is the guy who back in the end of 05 got subbed by Spencer Fisher of all people. Talk about some re-dedication.Fisher has good stand up but his JJ is nothing to write home about and he got Alves rushing in. How many people can honestly say when that happened he was gonna be a guy to beat Karo (arguably a top 5 fighter in the WW division) and Matt Hughes (arguably a top 5 WW fighter at the time).
The scary thing to think about is just think if Lytle's cut didn't end the fight and he ended up winning that fight .....

do not make this fight happen. have alves get his title shot after fitch and then have diego fight someone else.
because a loss for either of these guys would knock them down out of contention and could be hard to get back in.

Both fighters have looked amazing in their last couple fights. Should be a war

I think Diego will take this, even though Alves is like a steam train at the minute.
Then the winner must fight Koscheck to determine the number one contender.
By the time this all happens, BJ will probably have the WW belt so we could see Penn Vs Sanchez at UFC 99

I think Koscheck got the sort end on this one, beats Deigo and Hazelett, Diego loses to Fitch and Kos and beats a guy who has not fought n two years and Luigi and gets the fight that will determine the next title shot
whoa dude bj gets winner of fitch and gsp.. then winner of this should fight kos...
So thiago has to have 8 wins in a row to get a title shot according to you....? how many top 10s does Thiago have to beat exactly..... think before you write maybe
it doesn't matter how many top 10s he beats seems how he can't make weight for the biggest fight of his life. if he makes weight and wins against diego then he deserves a title shot.
wow good logic buddy

All I have to say is WOW! What a fight. Wasn't expecting these two to fight anytime soon. But, if this fight does happen it's got title fight implications. Whoever wins this fight has to be right at the top to fight the GSP/Fitch winner.
Thinking about this fight Alves definetally has the advantage on the feet although Diego's striking is getting alot better. I would also have to give Alves the grappling advantage also. He's going to be alot stronger than Diego and be able to put him against the cage. I would give the wrestling and BJJ game to Diego. Diego should be able to take Alves down whenever he wants. Thiago has had suspect takedown defense for a long time. As for the winner I'm going to have to go with Diego. I think he's going to win this fight on heart and the fact he looks more focused now.

WOW! Awesome matchup. Dream matchup. Gotta go with Diego. Thiago won't win a decision, only via KO. And Diego isn't one to be KO'd.

Some ppl seem unaware of WHY Alves missed weight, a rolled ankle will do that ffs! the guys cuts so much of course he will miss weight if he cant work out properly
Alves via DOMINATION, it should not to go the ground but im hoping if it does Thiago can avoid the subs and get the KO

I'll have to go with Diego, but if Alves wins this, I think he'll break into the top 4 in the world.

Diego couldn't secure a decent takedown in a full three rounds with Firovanti. Pitbull is going to stuff him at will. Alves sprawl has gotten better each time out. Early on a wrestler had a shot against him, but not at this stage in his career.

what a great fight for Sanchez to fully display his skill-set... Alves will keep it exciting but Sanchez is just going to be too much for Alves here.
