Maybe this doesn't bother you, but when I first started sparring bring Advil. My head used to throb after getting hit over and over again (mind you they weren't even hitting me hard). It's all good now, but when you start i dunno my head had to adapt to getting hit, and would throb like crazy after. And hands glued to your head. Beginners always do this, they get hit and start swinging with their arms, cover up.
btw you can tell this thread is full of kick boxers (or stand up style enthusiasts) we all have crocop avatars.

Good post and yeah we're a bunch of CC fans in here. I haven't started sparring yet, but can see that happening. Also, when we practice throwing combinations and bobbing/weaving I always make sure that I keep my hands up. Tonight we practiced the clinch and how to defend against it, did roundhouse kicks and side kicks, heavy bag workout, and some other basic stuff. I'm having a blast and start MMA training tomorrow night. Should be fun!

Just got back from the club. We did a lot of sparring today and practiced checking kicks. Had a great time, my left arm feels like it's going to fall off, but I'll get used to it. Throwing those jabs over and over again really took a toll on it. Need to work more on my combinations, I feel like I am telegraphing my strikes at times and doing repetitive combos. Will get better with more experience I'm hoping.

Favorite combo so far is jab, straight, and then an uppercut and also like to do double jab then cross. Basic combos, but I haven't learned that much yet.

no MT vet, but did a lot of stand up.
best advice is be open minded to learning, train technique first... speed and power will come later. oh and remember the golden rule "its never personal".
MT is pretty much kickboxing with clinch in short version so to speak, so have fun with it.

dont forget to stretch is first thing....ive been training mt/kb for lil over two years, try very hard not to kick with your foot...learn your range with your shin or instep(if you must) as best as possible...trust me if you catch a elbow to the top of your foot(eg:body kick blocked) you will be very tender for weeks if not, might even break it...same thing when someone is checking your kicks..avoid the knee if you kick it with your foot or even your shin you will dam sure know it! like everyone says practice...both sides...im a conventional fighter so clearly my right hand is my bread and butter but the power an accuracy in my kicks is almost identical from repeticion....hope things going well sounds like you taking on alot at once...good luck

I like a 1-1-2 or a 1-2-shovel hook...oh and the old 1-2 head kick is my personal favorite.

the 1-2 as common as it is works quite often...i always like to come off a combo with a kick...learn to pivot as well...so if you throw a 1-2-3 finish with the right kick(leg, body or head)...try to use opposites from where you throw from..if you throw a left hook then throw a right kick...if you throw a right cross then throw a left kick bc you already pivoted from the cross....throw 1-3 with the left hand an follow with a cross an then left kick....just some good combos to get used to.....btw my favorite move is the superman punch....

Just got back, did a lot of sparring again and worked on our side kicks and round-house kicks. Main focus tonight was technique and CARDIO. I nearly died today, we ran our asses off.

Nice Wolfman
I've been getting back to boxing and kickboxing (much more boxing though) alot more now like i had before, and doing hardcore stand up, no more ground game. Already have a good offense, so been working alot on defence and counter punching.
Also started just recently to do alot of cardio, afterward in one session i decided to spar with my buddy, was already pretty tired, and took a hard knee to the liver, for about 15 secs i really thought i would die, no joke.

Lol yeah no one realizes what it feels like to take a shot in the liver. My tiny gf acctually hit me in the liver once, it took everything I had not to show that it acctually hurt me lol.

I can't believe I haven't been watching this thread more closely. Some good stuff going on in here-
My favorite combo is a simple 1, 2 creating the distance with a telegraphed 3 and then followed by the 10 low. I love blasting that 10 and I always picture myself kicking out a table leg when I throw it. Leg kicks are my favorite thing to watch in MMA, too (notice the Av)
Although I am going to take this week and possibly a few following off. My shoulder is killing me and I think I may have a torn rotator cuff. Gotta go see the doc this Friday I am majorly bummed.
