Josh Thomson interview with Sherdog. He talks about the win, the pre interviews, who helped him out, rankings, and how he would dominate any other lightweight fighter in any organization.
After his great preformance I wouldn't be as quick as I was this fight to bet against him.

I dont think he's a top 10 lightweight. I am not sure hes top 20 either. Way I look at it.

he broke my top 20, but i agree that he is not a top 10 LW just yet.

I wasn't surprised at all by the victory. Melendez hasn't fought ANYONE.

Ishida and Kawajiri are top 10 LW imho and Clay Guida is another solid opponent he has faced. so i think it isn't fair to make the claim that he hasn't fought anyone. still, i agree he is overrated.

It's easy to see him as a powerhouse though. Watching Melendez fight in pride, he looked so energetic, so dominating. Very easy to overrate him.

I think Josh has to be ranked in the top ten. He's been on a winning streak for a while now. He just beat Melendez who was ranked #6 by MMA Weekly and #5 by Sherdog. He dominated him all five rounds. He was so quick he made Melendez look like a lumbering oaf.
Granted I think Melendez has been overrated, but it's easier to say that in retrospect. Now we can say Melendez was overrated but that didn't stop Thompson from being a 1 to 3 underdog. Thompson is no slouch so I think being such a heavy underdog states just how highly the MMA community thought of Melendez.

I think its wrong to consider someone top 10 after beating 1 other top 10 guy. but Josh has been on a big streak, and he HAS beaten some big names in the MMA world like Nam Phan, Duane Bang Ludwig, Hermes Franca, and Rob McCullough, but he's yet to beat a big UFC name. I think thats his biggest problem so far.
I think alot of ppl view the UFC as the worlds main event now, and until you get in that cage and knock down their big names, breaking into the top 10 is hard.
I have Josh Thomson ranked #12.
