Former UFC champion Matt Hughes has revealed through his official website that he suffered a torn MCL and partially torn PCL in his loss to Thiago Alves at UFC 85 earlier this month:

Don't really like the guy, but I feel for him man. I've had a bum knee since Junior year of high school, it sucks, and a lot of the time it's something you have to deal with forever. I wish him the best though.

i tore my ACL and MCL. It sucks hardcore. we wont see this guy for at a minimum of 8 months. Thats how long it took me and i still wasnt 100 % so if he is serious about training and getting back into shape then he might have a shot. if not he needs to just let it go.........i hope to see him in 2009 sometime . good luck Matt!!!

I reckon this is the end for Matt Hughes. Given there was already talk of retirement etc before alves, he may now just give up the idea of fighting Serra.
Why release this news so late? - that opens up questions for me.
