Quietly after his dominating win over Jens Pulver in front of 12,000 fans at Arco Arena in Sacramento, Urijah Faber soon found his name being mentioned in the Japanese press. It was no coincidence that K-1 was behind the name-dropping, as Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto (their 145-pound MMA superstar) was claiming that he wanted to fight Faber soon.

Japanese promotions, especially K-1, tend to telegraph the messages they send through various media channels. The message here was loud and clear – we want to book the two best 145 pound fighters in the world against each other.

yeah it's really unfortunate that this will probably never happen because Dana has some bizarre aversion to cross promotion, and he isn't going to let his WEC showhorse get into a fight he will most likely lose.

I think that Faber would win the fight. I also think that it's a great business decision for Dana to not allow Faber to take the fight unless Kid signed with the WEC. However, you shouldn't say he doesn't allow it because Kid's last opponent was on loan from the WEC, Rani Yahya.

The con is that Yamamoto would whoop Faber's butt.

I'd love to see it happen but it's really tough to get these blockbuster fights with guys on seperate ends of the world off the ground. Maybe it'll happen somewhere down the road when there's no one left to fight but #1 and #2.

He may not LOVE it, but it has happened. Remmeber he took Liddell Over to Pride, hyped him up, and watched him get his ass handed to him?

I think Faber would be the favorite in this match up.

I'm not sure who I'd be rooting for.

There are no cons if two of the world's best fight each other. Kid would rape him anyway.

Agreed. I'd have a really hard time convincing myself that Urijah could lose to ANYONE til I see it happen. I've seen all his WEC fights. and the guy just keeps getting better all the time. He's scary good. Innovative, quick, risk taker, very exciting.

That's the only thing I don't like about Zuffa ... they are too damn selfish with their fighters.

IMO Kid has fought better competition. Urijah best win was Jens Pulver. Kid's best win was probably Genki Sudo. He beat Genki when he was still in his prime aswell. After seeing both these guys fight, I feel Kid would hand Faber a beating.

I think Uriah takes this. Kid's strength is wrestling. Are you telling me he's better there? Hell no. Striking is even. Intangibles I give to Uriah. And he's improving at a much better rate than Kid. Some of the stuff he does in fights, like that jumping knee against Curran, that Floyd Mayweather type boxing against Pulver, this dude is amazing.

Kid has olimpic calibur wrestling. Wrestling is in his family. His dad was in the olympics, his older sisters are former world champs. He was going to try and qualify but got injured. Striking I also give to Kid. The guy fought a pretty competative match in K-1, even though he got knocked out LOL

Alot of people, especially the hardcore fans say Kid would throw him a beating.

That's why Faber takes this for me.
