I decided to start a thread rather than comment in 500 other ones to point out that a wrestling background will not only help you gain top position, but it will also make you more effective in the event that you end up with the other guy on top of you. You will be stronger and have better body control in general and your ability to sweep from the, stand up out of the guard, and especially to reverse from mount or side control will be enhanced.
As an anectdote I have a wrestling and judo background and I used to like to work from top position and could usually do so. After a knee injury I found my ability to bend and twist for judo-type throws or to bend and shoot for legs was severely impaired. On my feet I became a "non-wrestler" and was routinely taken down by other wrestlers. Once I was there, though, I becase "a wrestler" again and was able to fight for position on the ground, as well as lock in subs with more authority, rather than just wrapping my legs around a guy and trying to pivot my hips faster than my opponent can adjust his posture (the losing battle that BJJ guys with no wrestling experience often employ).

I agree it helps but we hate to be on our backs. I don't mind it with a rubber guard but PURE wrestling says explode your hips up twist and give up your back . Stand! GRANBY Sit outttt lol
I can agree with what you say but I disagree that it would help at first until you were a little experianced and made a transition.
I can see that though because all wrestlers are really good at hips and exploding (basics)
