Not even close. Over at MixedMartialArts.com, I explain why those who suggest MMA referees deserve leeway because of the "subjectivity" of MMA refereeing are trying to have their cake and eat it, too:

Dude had a great take, much props to Luke Thomas.

Now a quote from the original article..

"Mike Chiapetta of NBC Sports is imploring the MMA world to relax the criticism of MMA referees and particularly referee Dan Miragliotta in the wake of what many consider to be poorly timed stoppages in back to back weeks of officiating."

I say relax on the refs and run Dan Miragliotta out of MMA.

That dude reminds me of a scene from Casino.

After a jackpot hits on the same machine 3 times, Deniro fires the floor boss that watched it go down. Anyway it goes something like this..

You either were in on it, or you were to stupid to know you were being robbed. Either way I can't trust you and you can't work in my casino.

Whatever Dan's excuse for the controversy is, I don't want him.

All i want is consistency. In the kimbo fight he lets Kimbo take 20 unaswered elbows and then stops the fight because james' ear is bleeding. then he stops a fight with vera on the bottom, who was intelligently defending himself, with 20 seconds left in the round. if he stopped the kimbo fight with the elbows and then stopped the vera fight then that is somewhat consistent but those stoppages completely contradict each other IMO.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY.......There would still be people complaining, but at least he would be consistent....

Why is Mike Chiapetta asking people to lay off Dan Miragliotta. All true fans in MMA should be saying no more Dan Miragliotta. I'm so sick of some people acting like we should just stick our heads in the ground and ignore the fact that Dan Miragliotta showed blatant favoritism in the JT vs Kimbo fight. He showed us that it was nothing but favoritism when he stopped the Vera fight early. Vera was doing a much better job of defending and was in a bad spot for a lot less time than Kimbo. But yet Miragliotta stopped the Vera fight but didn't stop the Kimbo fight? Then you take in to count that Gary Shaws soon was yelling for Miragliotta to stand it up in the Kimbo fight and its seams Miragliotta was following those instuctions. Miragliotta stood the fight up from side control and then when the fight should have been stopped he was telling JT he was going to stand it up. WTF!!!

I find it funny that Dan Miragliotta was very consistent till the Kimbo vs JT fight. Then in that fight he just changed the rules he has followed in favor of Kimbo. Miragliotta is either dirty or stupid and I don't think he is stupid. So I'm sorry Mike Chiapetta as real fan I refuse to just sit back and act like there isn't a problem. I think its up to you as the press and us as fan to stop Miragliotta from doing this again. I don't know about anyone else but I wont stop till Miragliotta is no longer a ref in MMA.

ok heres my take. There is no doubt in my mind that the fight should've been stopped in round 2 with JT on top of Kimbo. but after watching the ending, JT was not defending himself and was out on his feet. Dan when he entered the octagon, had called and reffed some good fights. a couple of good stoppages i saw first hand at UFC 83. but many fights have been stopped early, or have let go a bit longer than they should. Ken Tito 2 was stopped early by Big Jon, KenFlo J-Lau was let to go on too long. you can always blame the ref, whether its Karo Alves, or Vera Werdum. im not saying to lay off on Dan, but put him under probation or investigation. my 2 cents.

Dan is the only ref worth the criticism right now. All of the others have made mistakes, but are overall great refs. Yves, Herb, and Steve M. are top notch as are the refs in Dream. We have very little to complain about outside the idiocy of Dan M.

I would agree if it was just a bad stoppage. But thats half the problem. The fact that he stood the fight up from side control and then while JT had Kimbo in a crucifix he threated to stand the fight up when he should have been stopping it. He seamed to do this at the same time that EliteXC VP Jared Shaw (Gary Shaw's son) was yelling at at him to stand it up. Now as far as JT not defending himself he was rocked in the 1st and 2nd but was still able to score the take down and take it to the ground. In fact that seamed to be his game plan was to let Kimbo over extend himself then score a take down which was working great for him. When the fight was stopped you have Jared Shaw running in to the ring to congratulate Kimbo before anyone else. Jared Shaw even beat Kimbo's own team in to the ring to congratulate him.

Now you have all those problems and another one on top of it. Not that this is Miragliotta's fault but you also have one of the Judges scoring the 2nd round in favor of Kimbo. Then you have almost everyone in MMA community agreeing the fight should have been stopped in the 2nd and the stoppage in the 3rd was early but you also have Kimbo's own trainer(Bas) saying the same thing.

Now you add all this up you have to see that something isn't right. Do I think they should investigate Miragliotta - YES. But do I think anything will be done to fix the problem - NO. A few years ago there was proof that few boxing matches were fixed in NJ but the NJAC did nothing about it. In fact they chose to not even investigate it. So its up the the press and us as fans to make sure something is done.

When Big John was reffereeing there was never this much controversy. Now there seems to be controversey at every show. Sometimes it's legitimate, sometimes it isn't.

Big John was the best, you could tell he loved his work, and that he tried to be consistent. Because of that I have to say it's just bad reffereeing. Right now I think Herb Dean's probably the best, and that's not saying much, but still I feel a little safer with him in there.

Guy's just need to be trained better, maybe spend some time watching footage of matches they've halted early or late. So right now I do believe they deserve the flack they're getting.

Regarding the Dan's situation: I don't care what anyone says Werdum vs Vera.Watching the slow motion replay, he was getting smashed and not defending or trying to escape. Kimbo wasn't defending either but Thompson was just letting his gloves fall on him. Watch the replay of Vera, those punches were getting through, trust me, he wasn't blocking many and if you say different, well we must have different tv monitors. You cover up to survive, expect it will be stopped, cuse that's what covering up and laying flat on the mat means to me...that you're done.

Well looks like Dan Miragliotta is out for the next 3 months. (Karma gets you every time) To bad it isn't for the right reasons!! I hope once he is able to come back they just tell him stay on your leave permanently.

Qote from the above link:

''It will give Dan three months to review the rules of MMA and come back as a better and more consistent referee.''
