mini 14
Blows away all hand guns. I bought the DPMS arctic panther a few years back. Absolutely one of the better firearms purchases I've made!1/4" grouping at 150 yds. (Benchrest) or bipod.
except the mini 14 aint a handgun its same cal as m16 rifle
The DPMS is a .223 as well.
My father is a disabled Vietnam Vet, and despises the .223, as its underpowered for killing people. My only rifle is an M1 Carbine, which is also underpowered, but I only bought it for historical value and plinking.

underpowered for killing people?, maybe cause its not a hollow point bullet. .223 were used cause said to be more "humain" cause they go right through you

Not really. The reason the army switched to 9mm and 5.56 Nato is twofold. First, NATO countries all try to use the same ammo, so troops can share ammo and be easily resupplied. Second, after WW2, it was researched and found that most soldiers don't aim during a close quarters battle, so the rate of fire tended to be more important than accuracy or stopping power. Being as they were going for rate of fire, they needed smaller bullets to increase ammo capacity in firearms, as the 30-06 and .308 are large rifle rounds, so they went with a 5.56 to increase ammo capacity and lower recoil for rapid fire shooting.
I've heard it was used to be more humane, and also to cause wounds rather than kills, but I'm not sure I buy that.

WOW.
As a Brit looking in, this is insane. Government bonuses with which to buy guns!?!?
If I were there I'd be investing in one of these bad boys...

Its a tax return. If you pay more money to the government for your federal income tax than you owe, they give the extra back once a year. Some people pay in extra so they get a big check back, like myself.
And just so you know, a bullet proof vest wont stop any gun mentioned in this thread.

Well for wounding a solider. It is far better to wound a enemy than kill one. A wounded solider takes 3-4 others to carry him/her. And they need medical attention where as a dead soldier can be lfet behind. Wounding soldiers slows down and decreases the enemy force.

That is a European battle mindset and doesn't translate to todays wars. In the Pacific Theater in WW2, the Japanese didn't even have medics for the most part. The Japanese soldier was considered to be worth less than the rifle he carried, as all the Imperial government had to do was send a draft card out and get another soldier, but effort had to go into making a rifle.
As such, wounding soliders in that situation didn't do anything, as no one cared about them, and they'd often rig themselves with grenades to kill American soliders who did care enough to check on them. Korea and Vietnam were similar in that the upper command didn't care about the front line infantry.
Things like the Geneva Convention and military codes of conduct are products of "Gentleman's Wars" between Chrisitan European forces, because WW1 was so horrible, they didn't care to repeat it. With todays technology, WW1 trench warfare will never happen again though, and a lot of the conventions of war, such as shooting to wound, should really be done away with.
