I heard this last night watching TUF. The commercial said that this fight was for a title shot. I hope Okami gets his shot but if this is for a title shot as well than either okami is out or the winner of cote/Almeida isnt going to have another fight until next year.

What the commercial actually says is "one of them will take a step closer TOWARDS a title shot". Which to me sounds like their trying to build hype for this fight without actually calling it a number one contenders match.

If it is for a title shot, I think thats BS for Okami, who deserves the next title shot. But by the sounds of things (check the ufc 89 thread) Yushin will get his shot first in october (plus maybe Hendo vs Franklin! )

Edit: Nevermind, I just looked into it and it does say they are fighting for a title shot. Whereas before it just said they fighting towards a title shot.

yeah okami is rumored to be fighting silva in october.

personally i dont see ricardo getting a title shot after 2 wins after being gone for awhile.

I think thales or kampmann might be closer at this point than ricardo.

And what if cote wins? I agree with the Almeida statement though. 2 wins doesnt justify a title shot. if your not fighting and then decide to start again you should start at the bottom. i guess one of these guys will be fighting silva or okami next year.

i agree, cote has showed weak sub defense his whole career. kind of like ed herman but ed herman is a groud figher with no sub defense which is much more pathetic.

"As Patrick Cote and Ricardo Almedia fight for A title shot."

It didn't quite clearly and specifically say the next one. Most likely the winner will have to go through either Maia, Bisping or Leban at least one of them before they get their title shot since all three of them are on winning streak too.

Cote vs. Anderson would be such a joke.

Almeida should sub Cote quickly, just like Lutter did. Cote needs more work on his ground game if he wants to be a top 5 fighter.

Almeida has a way better chance against Silva than Cote. Cote has a really good chin but so does Leben and we know what happened then.

Almeida could have a chance against Silva if he got him to the ground and pulls off a submission.

Almeida does have a good shot against Silva, and if he doesn't pull it off, I think another guy with great jiu-jitsu and good wrestling can (Maia, Palhares, Leites, Jacare). Easier said than done, but Lutter had Silva mounted, and Marquardt was close to passing Silva's guard, which is what you have to do to beat him.

I doubt anyone can k.o. Silva or win a five-round decision, so somebody is gonna have to take him down quickly and finish the fight via sub/tko. I think there are a few potential threats at middleweight for Silva, but I wouldn't mind seeing him move to 205 either.
