The combination of a voiceover for UFC 86 that hypes Cote-Almeida as a fight for a title shot ,and speculation that Silva is going to fight at Light Heavyweight has lead to an outcry among some hardcore fans: What about Yushin Okami?
In January 2006, Okami "defeated" Anderson Silva via DQ when Silva knocked him out with an illegal upkick. He has won 8 of 9 fights since, with his only loss coming at the hands of Rich Franklin. Unfortunately for Okami, Franklin is the only legitimate 185 pound contender he has fought, and he lost.

Yeah that puts him in a bad place considering what Anderson did to Franklin.

I just have the feeling that people would be more willing to pay for a fight between the winner of cote almedia, rematch with hendo, or any fight with a top guy at light heavy against A. Silva rather than yushin and even though i know i'll probably get blasted for saying this i don't think okami is a good enough fighter nor well liked enough to have a ttitle shot. i gotta say that this "injustice" is nessicary to build up okami's status in the rankings and his popularity so the ufc can get more ppv buys.

Okami lost to Franklin. It was a close fight. Rich didn't dominate Okami, and I know a loss is a loss. At this point who deserves it more than Okami? Okami is 6-1 in the UFC. His only loss to Franklin. I don't think Henderson gets a shot until he wins 1 or 2 more times. I don't think anyone wants to see Franklin again. Cote is 3-4 in the UFC. He beat Smith, Grove, and McFedries as of late, non of which are consedered title threats. If Almeida beats Cote, I can see where he could get a shot, with wins over Chonan, Marquartd(not in UFC, in Pancrase), Minowa, and Misaki to name a few. Bisping could be there if he continues to put up impressive wins against tougher opponents. The only other scenerio would be for Anderson not to fight for a while until someone put a win streak together against top level opponents and the UFC could truly market the match. I say let Okami get his shot, and let Joe Silva sort out the rest of the contenders along the way.

comments like this are hilarious and i doubt people who think Silva would blitz Okami have even seen there 1st fight! he got taken down and was getting GnP'd, the same could happen again ffs! Okami would be the biggest and strongest contender with the best style to beat him, this fight has to happen and this is absolute bullsheet!!!!!

I am a Patrick Cote fan....number one Cote fan in the world! I have been since his decision loss to Tito way back when at UFC 50. Tito is lucky Cote didn't knock him out...after Ortiz caught one of Cote's bombs he immediately wanted no more of that and took Cote to the ground. Tito laid on him for 10 minutes at least....trying his usual ground and pound...with little success....Cote avoided most of it...the few punches and elbows that did get through did no damage...Cote didn't have a mark on him...nor was he hurt...nor was he tired. Look at his wins...look at his losses. Cote's ONLY REAL LOSS since was to Lutter. Doerkson miraculously caught him and narrowly escaped certain defeat and Leben won one that could have been a draw or a win for Cote. On TUF 4 he beat Jorge Rivera and Edwin DeWees....and then the loss to Lutter. He has dispatched Drew McFedries, Kendall Grove, Jason "Glooms" Day, Scott Smith, Jason MacDonald and Bill Mahood in his last 6 wins. I am not saying Cote deserves a title shot over Okami...but Cote certainly deserves some spotlight and attention....and certainly deserves some respect. I am happy though....the UFC has mounds of respect for him....obviously. If he can avoid Almeida's submission game and keep it a stand up match....Almeida will go to sleep...or get saved by the ref.

Okami should have beat Franklin, if he would gave started to take the fight to him just a few minutes earlier. He waited just a little to long.

I agree only 99%. I personally think Dan henderson Sitll has the best chance in beating Anderson and was the biggest and strongest test hes fought. Okami is a close second but Henderson (when he gets his rematch) should be able to make the adjustments needed.
I do agree people that think Anderson would run through Okami though are mistaken.

i feel bad if that is indeed the truth almeida vs cote for a title shot is a joke, bisping derserves it more, and even if it were for a title shot not title match then who are they fighting if silva does move up in weight,
if he moves up and title is vacant i think hendo vs okami for title match is good but then again if silva vs okami is not big enough how would hendo be.
i still think silva will face okami in sept and maybe winner of cote vs almeida match will get next

the only person that deserves a title shot right now is OKAMI, i think it would be a closer fight than everyone thinks. Okami didnt get beatdown by Rich, he almost beat him.
And Anderson could get a chance to avenge his loss to Okami, how would that not sell. ufc could hype that up. And okami just finished evan tanner. What else does he have to do? nothing that is, no one else is in the title picture right now.
bisping is not. he's beaten no contenders at 185 yet.

Yeah right! COTE or ALMEIDA would OWN Bisping!
On a side note i want to see Okami VS Hendo! for a shot at the title
