But Ben did he look weak and tired from the cut? any decent staredowns or anything?
Well mate he didn't look 100% tough and ready to go, he looked a lathargic. (I didn't look to see the staredown).
Cheers dude. I dont know what to think now, should i change a pick based on something like that? i mean he could be just as fit and strong tomorrow as he ever is ....... im confused hope they have a video up soon!!!!

Words cannot accurately descibe my displeasure for Pitbull right now. I've spent my last few posts ripping Carano for this very thing. Alves is no exception. I'm truely ashamed, and considering an AV change.
I just don't understand. He came into Karo's fight in top condition, and ready to rock. He's been in the gym since the day after the last fight. DO THEY NOT HAVE SCALES AROUND THERE SOMEWHERE?! Maybe they forgot to circle the date in the calander.
Completely rediculous and in excusable.

My question is...even if he wins, do you give someone a title shot who can't make weight?

4 pounds is usually not hard to drop.. and there is still time.. they usually give the fighters a bit more time which sucks for the guy who did not make weight as he has to suddenly shift his focus to losing weight and not fighting.. but then it is not a title fight so they more then liekyl will not be as picky.. thats why I like being a HW... I will not have to really worry about cutting weight and such...
4 pounds is a ton, especially if you are already dried out. It is relative really, 4 pounds from normal is nothing, 4 pounds when you already lost 15 pounds of water weight is super tough.
plus Alves is stacked! I bet he walks around at 195+lbs on a regular day.
I had Hughes winning anyway. But now you can count on Alves gassing early. He'll have to KO Hughes before they get to the ground if he wants to have a chance.
As for his title shot, I think by winning he gains no ground and should have to fight Kos or Diego. By losing he will lose ground and still have to fight a top ranked contender.

I'll see if I can find a staredown video around...maybe we'll see then. This is a shame. A real shame. He should just move up to 185 if he can't make the weight...but I already gave a rant in another thread, so I will refrain from doing so in this one.

The weigh ins should be on ufc.com in an hour or so.

Sucks for alves, but i mean really, if you want to be so big fighting at 170 then you have to be committed to loosing the weight. I think possible jet lag, combined with what was obviously a hard cut will make him tire out pretty quick tomorrow.
It could be that he had a hard time adjusting to the time change, and knew hughes would take the fight even if he failed to make weight, so he just didnt put as much effort into the cut as he could of? I dunno.

IMO, Alves did this on purpose.
Hughes walks around 185-190.
Alves 180-185
he put on more weight training, and couldnt cut it, its not that he didnt cut, its that he wanted to bulk up.
IDC tho, Matt is still 100% stronger.
