Millionaire real estate developer, casino boss and reality television star, Donald Trump, is set to announce his foray into mixed martial arts this Thursday, June 5, at a press conference at Trump Tower in New York, N.Y., at 12 p.m. ET.

According to a press release issued today, “The Donald” will partner with the start up Affliction MMA promotion, which is set to pull the trigger on its debut show at the at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on July 19.

No particulars were revealed at this time.

Here’s a snip from Trump:

“I have been a fan of professional sports since childhood, and I am particularly impressed by the athleticism, courage, and strength of these disciplined athletes. This particular sport resembles my business style of being fast paced, strategic, and aggressive … remembering to never give up. I am particularly excited to partner with Affliction and become a major player in promotion of MMA; the youngest and fastest growing sport to emerge in the last century.”

Deepens the pockets of the T-Shirt salesmen for sure, also adds a lot of credibility and main-stream attention to this event. Can't wait to see it, and I wish it success, what an amazing card!

Affliction keeps adding strength to their organization. Donald Trump would not get involved with this if he didn't think it would make money, and be successful. Good news for MMA, and Affliction.

HOLY F**KIN SH*T!!!!

So much for me doubting Affliction financially with the lack of advertising so far. Affliction is the real deal!!!

Providing a major collapse in the Affliction/Trump partnership, AFFLICTION WILL BE THE COMPANY THAT RUNS THE UFC OUT OF BUSINESS!!! Or...just make them start co-promoting to survive.

Don't think its a good thing for Trump to be getting involved. He doesn't know anything about MMA and has ran many many company's in to the ground. I'm not really sure why people praise him as some great biz man. I think he is more of a celebrity than biz man and has been for years. He got where he is at by riding on the backs of others and claiming credit for himself. I see this being nothing but bad, come on this is the same guy that thought Tito won his last fight.

If Donald Trump does what I think and hope he will do. He'll see where your coming from and just use his financial and celebrity status to draw more fans to this promotion. I don't think he'll come out saying "I've been a fan of the sport for a long time and feel it is time to finally get involved with it." I think and hopefully he will say "The sport has caught my eye, I enjoy watching and learning more about it, and will do my best in helping the sport grow more mainstream."

I mean face it, if he just puts his ego aside and admits to being a new fan and just uses his celebrity status and tremendous financial backing to promote this event and just lets the Affliction crew keep up with their tremendous match making. The UFC is in some serious trouble. The only problem they have now is getting more bigger names in their second event since the 1st one is filled with 90% of their elite veteran talent.

I have to disagree....(big suprise right? ha ha) I highly doubt that Affliction will come anywhere near "putting the UFC out of business" This affiliction card has some big stars but it has nowhere near the roster that the UFC has. Even with Trump backing them, they are paying thier fighters way too much for a first event. The UFC is a well established proven business model, there is no way in hell that Affliction is going to make them go out of business...the UFC is the standard for MMA people need to accept that and whats weird natedawg is that it almost sounds from the way you speak that you hope the UFC goes outta business....which would be the end of MMA period....so watch what you wish for.

Ya this is not going to put the UFC out of buisness, but it's good for MMA, especially I think, in finally getting it sanctioned in NY (If anyone in NYC has contacts is Trump). I would much rather have The Donald hyping this Org than say... EliteXC. I also agree that they are just using Trumps celebrity here, maybe giving him a cut of the company to get his name behind it. I doubt he will ever be a big force behind the scenes.

I think this is more of an intro card for Fedor, Aleks and to some extent, Barnett for the casual fan. On the 2nd card you make the match-ups that us hardcore fans would've preferred. (Unless there is an upset)

Aleks vs. AA
and Fedor vs. Barnett

A mixed bag here. I'm not sure how much Trump knows about MMA, but he does know a thing or two about turning a profit- which is something I was concerned about after hearing what some of the Affliction fighters may be getting paid. I honestly think this is better news for Affliction than it is for MMA.

I would have rather seen backing from someone who has a ton of cash, knows about turning profit, is willing to take risks, and has a knowledge and passion for MMA. I think if Mark Cuban signed on instead, this could have been a bigger step for the sport as a whole, not just Affliction as a promotion.

(Not to mention that I would have been able to watch the card live on HDNet, rather than spring the extra cash for the PPV)

Well, the way Trump was stroking Tito after the last UFC, I am pretty sure that is where Tito will end up.
I loved during the interview when Trump said that he thought Tito won that fight and was surprised over the decision. That right there tells me that he should just be a financial backing and nothing more. He doesn't know anything about the sport.

This is a badass card, but it will be very difficult for them to keep the pace. They better not screw the pooch on the production like CBS did.
