Former top UFC heavyweight contender Gabriel Gonzaga (8-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) will likely return from the first back-to-back losses of his career when he meets Justin McCully (8-3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC 86.

Sources close to both fighters tell MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the heavyweights recently accepted the bout and that it should be finalized shortly.

UFC 86 takes place July 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and airs live on pay per view.

Gonzaga, who began his UFC career with a 4-0 record, hasn't fought since a January second-round TKO loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 80. The televised bout was a rematch from their September 2003 meeting at Jungle Fight 1 in Brazil. Werdum TKO'd Gonzaga in that event, as well.

Prior to the loss, Gonzaga fought at UFC 74 in August 2007 and suffered a third-round TKO to UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture.

McCully, meanwhile, will return to action for the first time since his April 2007 unanimous-decision victory over Antoni Hardonk. McCully, part of Tito Ortiz's Team Punishment, had been a rumored opponent for Frank Mir, but the bout was apparently scrapped when the former champ was selected to coach opposite current champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on the upcoming eighth season of "The Ultimate Fighter."

McCully I'm not jumping on the Gonzaga losing streak, I just see McCully outworking Gonzaga and winning via UD.

I agree here. This fight has boring written all over it. McCully's first fight in the UFC was really boring. He LnP on the guy almost the whole fight. Hopefully Gonzaga proves me wrong and KO's him. I also hope this is an undercard fight. Because I'd be pretty dissapointed if this got air time over some of the other fights.

IMO Gonzaga is one of the most talented HW's in the UFC, but mentally he is weak. If he gets his mind straight i think he'd run through the division, including Nog.

this fight is a hell of alot better than the wilson vs bruno match, glad i am getting more for my buck now, now i hope the evans vs hamill match comes true as well. and i'll be happy

i wonder if this fight will be aired on the pay per view they would have to bump a fight off which would likely be griffin vs aurelio

If GG gets a new Conditioning coach he is gonna win via Sub. if not, McCully loses round 1, but lays on top of GG and feathers a few shots in round 2 and 3.

im thinking he is gonna win by sub, if Mccully gets it to the ground i think it will end rather quickly. Remember guys this is the guy that Hardonk had a DEEP armbar on, and didnt finish it only because of inexperience. Now if hardonk can get him in that kind of trouble, no doubt GG is gonna wreck. but i would love to see a good KO from GG, which is just a plausible as a sub.

LOL

First Mir, then Lesnar, then Gonzaga. They really want this guys last fight in the UFC to be a loss.

Mccully is easily one of the most boring and one dimensional fighters in all of the UFC's divisions.

Gonzaga is going to win this fight no doubt. Better striker, better BJJ. I mean what can McCully do to stop Gonzaga? The answer is nothing. I doubt he will get Gonzaga to the ground unless gonzaga wants to go there. McCully leaves his limbs out there asking to get submitted. Or Gonzaga could just prolly KO or tko him. McCully should be done with UFC after he loses this fight.

If McCully hit's GG he'll win, not because McCully's got big power, but because GG quits as soon as you hit him a few times.
