I keep hearing people harp on the fact that Kimbo Slice is main eventing the first ever major network MMA broadcast despite a somewhat dubious background and questionable current skill set. I don't think that the fans who are down on the idea have their hearts in the wrong place. But I am positive that the same can not be said for their heads.

The difference is,in Pro-wrestling you can pick and choose who wins, and build up which ever wrestler you want into the number one posistion.MMA is a 50/50 shot everytime,so unless they are paying people extra cash to throw the fights, they are playing a risky game.

I was fully prepared to give Kimbo a chance until that fight with Tank.
Two or three full on punches to the back of the head of a downed opponent. Completely on purpose.
That's not MMA, that's street fighting.

Look the guy doesn't come out and say he can beat everybody. It's the media and the organizations that hype him up. He's 36 and taking what they give him. I'm not a huge Kimbo fan but I'm sure if they said your fighting Silva he'd say ok. It's not his fault they throw him chumps . I wouldn't turn down the easy pay check. He's just doing what they tell him. Only time will tell if he's really any good. It just seems to me that most people want him thrown to the wolves so pe0ple can just say I told you so. Let the man be he needs beginner fights like everyone else new to the sport. The media always creates the ridiculous circus. Bash them

After this fight the rumor is he will face IFL champ Roy Nelson. I would say if that happens Kimbo would be progressing his carrier at a nice pace. For his third fight he is fighting a guy with a lot more fights than Kimbo has. Let him get built up and then some day when he fights a real MMA'er that guy becomes the most popular guy around.
Giant Silva will beat Kimbo in his 5th fight to become a huge draw. He will defend once before people call for a fight with Fedor. Then the mantle of hype will pass to Fedor and all will be right in the world.

Re: the shots to the back of the head.
I can't hold that against him because that is where most of his experience comes from. it's just like a guy who wrestled his whole life fighting to get off his back and getting choked out....only in kimbo's case he's punching the back of the head....er....
if he's going to stick around he'll adapt...maybe.

There were no punches to the back of his head in any of his interweb fights. standup "boxing" only.

you guys are ridiculous.. he is a small time fighter with a hugename.. he knows heisnt ready for the big dogs... but thinks that when the time does come ... he will be successful with time. he has faith in his training and his trainer(so would I)
leave the guy a lone and let him fight..

The only similarity between Hogan and Kimbo is that they both have terrible facial hair.

Kimbo is now seen by the media as Hulk Hogan, Mike Tyson, and Butterbean from what the headlines in the front page of MMAPlayground says. This is mainstream BS mixing into MMA. There is always going to be some overhyped guy in the industry with news reporters flooding over him like he is a god.
No disrespect to him entering the sport, but he doesnt deserve the attention he is getting.

Marketing folks. His people market him well. The UFC markets itself. He has a buzz, a look, and a hook. He CAN fight but he's probably only Top 30 in heavyweights---as in there are probably 30 guys out there that are better than him. He's not ready for the roy nelson, arlovski, fedor, or any emilioninko for that matter and the list goes on. Tonight showed that. Howeve,r when he can keep it standing he has a punchers chance. He throws very good shots to the body and head and he hits very hard. I liked what i saw in the 1st round groundwise but honsetly HE Took himself down both times he went to the ground. His sprawl isn't bad but his guillotines are.
