I've seen BJ fight over the years. We all know he has great stand up, great ground game, great balance, and great flexibility.

But I have just realized..........I have never seen a head kick attempt from him.....
I find it so weird, because he has really good control of his legs, and really good balance......

Am I the only one who finds that weird?

He maybe just doesn't want to risk doing them, or simply he might not be very good at them

I've seen a number of fighters that don't really kick high and then they try it and fall on their ass. If you ask me BJ is smart for fighting with his strengths.

That's a good catch. I hadn't really thought about it, but it is a little odd for a guy with such hip and leg flexibility.

It does sort of fit with his fighting style, though. He expends very little energy striking or grappling and tries to force his opponent to burn himself out trying to force the action. Pot shotting punches rather than waling guys down or throwing a lot of kicks is better suited to that style.

when Penn is standing he is mostly a boxer, with very few kicks....i think he is much more comfortable as a boxer and just doesnt bother that much with kicks.

Watch BJ Penn vs. Takanori Gomi. He attempts a few head kicks in that fight.
