(Goran Reljic)
this kid is good, gouviea was sayin he was gonna finish in the 1st and this is what made goran butt heads with wilson at the weigh in's making this fight more exciting, he showed dynamic striking and has a sick guard, maybe he can go far with more training and experience... mini cro cop is here

(Dong Hyun Kim)
seen many fights of his, hes got awesome striking and dominated tan tonight, im not sure on how he'll handle the top guys, but he can knock you out if he connects, possibly a promising future

(Rousimar Palhares)
that switch he did from the rear naked position to armbar was among some of the sickest jiu-jitsu ive seen, he can definatly hang with the elite, not sure about his hands but none the less a great win for him to get in his debut

(Shane Carwin)
what can you say, he cleaned christian's clock, hes got it all and hopefully they will give him another big fight to see where he really stands in the HW division, from what ive seen hes got serious KO power and if hes on top hes too strong, to christian's credit he got up right after that brutal knockout quickly

(Yoshiyuki Yoshida)
he took koppenhaver out with judo and a superior ground game, ive seen some tape on this guy as well, i feel he can hang with the top guys and hope to see more of him here in the UFC, needs to work on his interviewing skills tho

(Antonio Mendes)
yes i know he lost but he had Silva in trouble and forced Silva to take it to the ground, Thiago was a little upset at the end because of was losing that battle for awhile, Thiago came thru and showed hes not just a striker again, but they should give Mendes another chance as well as another guy Thiago beat in Thomas Drwal

(thought i was 11-0, but i forgot that i changed it back for the 9th time to wilson, and after i made a thread about underdogs and picking goran)

I agree it was a great night for new talent, I was even thinking about making this thread myself.

I would like to say I think people should hold off the Goran Reljic bandwagon though. WIlson had him beat on two separate occasions, but instead of using his excellent ju-jitsu, he was trying to be a fan favorite and was so focused on the knockout that he never saw the sub attempts he could have secured that would have been easy for him.

Goran will need to get much better on the ground if he wants to hang in that division, though most of the LHW are strikers.

yeah i would say Carwin just because he could move up the division so quick in the weak HW division, but dont get me wrong that guy is for real.

and maybe palhares because MW could use a guy like him.

With more training and experience i think the reljic could be a dominating fighter. just look at the power he was throwing with those kicks.

Carwin is in the weakest division and i feel he will make a much needed splash at HW with strong wrestling and explosive standup...i see him and Cain spicing things up in the near future. Reljic's stand up is too unchanging and he will get exploited soon imo. Kim and Yoshida have to each have another fight before i start making predictions for them at one of the most stacked divisions in MMA...although both proved they are at least C+ or B level imho. Palhares has a lot of potential at MW and his JJ is phenomenal. however, Silva holds the title and with a few great JJ fighters at MW already (Maia, Almeida, Marquardt, Leites) it will be harder for him to leave his mark at MW. Mendes tapped to GnP so i question his heart. he does seem to have strrong kicks, but he looked like he was outclassed so it is tough to say too many good things about him.

just my 2 cents

Its really hard to say, they all looked awesome. Defiantly a good thing to see after the ufc started releasing guys, that the guys their bringing in look like they could be stars as well. I mean, even mendes put up a god fight, i really though he was going to finish silva.

I think goran looked like he could be somebody that the fans want to see more of, but he was a little predictable so i wouldn't be suprised if the better strikers in the division capitalise on that. I really think wilson took him lightly, and it cost him in the end.

Id have to agree with the majority though, shane should beable to make waves in a pretty weak hw division. The only problem hes going to have is when he comes against sombody like nog, who preys on guys who just take him down so he can catch a sub. Either way though, i cant wait to see him fight again. 84 was a solid card top to bottom, and really has got me excited to see some of the new guys on the card fighting again.

As far as divisions go, i'll say that Carwin has the greatest chance of success because hes a great fighter in a not so great division but when it comes to an overall rating im gonna go with Yoshida or Dong, the WW division is a good division but not nearly as stacked as LW and LH, and those 2 have the necessary abilities and potential to be champions if they work hard enough on their all around mma game, Reljic has great potential and we will see how he reacts to such a stacked division, Rousimir on the other hand has the JJ to be able to beat Anderson the only reason he isnt #1 on my list is because i havnt seen his standup, if Anderson is able to sprawl on Rousimir at will (not saying he would) than Silva would just pick him apart on the feet.

goran got lucky, seems he tried to avoid the strikes when wilson was pounding on him, i still think wilson was hurt and gassed before he got knocked down
but yes it is nice to see some new commers win for a change instead of being in there to take a beating
