Coming off a unanimous decision loss to Heath Herring that perhaps cost him a title shot, Cheick Kongo returns to UFC at UFC 87 in August. He'll face Dan Evensen, who will make his UFC debut.

 ....i was hoping they would match him up against Gonzaga, guess it might be too dangerous for him, and the UFC cant afford loosing anymore contenders in the HW division.

I despise Kongo. If he didn't look like an action figure I think people would be a lot more annoyed by his poor skill set. He's supposed to be a dangerous striker but he keeps trying to lay and pray victories against guys that would stand with him if he wanted. I'm irritated every time I watch this guy fight.

i thought he would fight a contender but with such little talent in heavyweights i could see why this fight is placed. you still got, gonzaga, herring and eddie sanchez to fight soon, maybe two of those three will fight eachother

While its not pure personal opinion it does require you to watch more then one fight. Before Kongo vs Heath Herring everyone was talking about how underdeveloped his ground game was. In the fight he had a surprising game plan that would have worked if heath herring wasn't a developed fighter. Herring him self said he didn't train his ground game at all for that fight. While it wasn't exciting and he ended up losing it was a good fight plan in my opinion. Plus this is mixed martial arts not kicking boxing.

I know nothing about Evensen but I hope he wins because in the few Kongo fights of seen, it has been nothing but boring. He's got one of the best heavyweight physiques I have ever seen and supposedly amazing striking but it never shows through.

I thought it was a split-decision loss to Herring? Man, I thought he could've got that decision too, even though it was a boring fight, I thought he won 2/3 rounds.

Kongo made me a fan when he showed wrestling skills against Heath Heering (though Kongo had no chance in that match...but then i thought he ended up winning)

to that guy that said Kongo is his Fav HW.....I ask why- is it because he looks like a bad assss? After heath... I think he is a big question mark-
he should beat this guy, but of the week heavy div. who else can he beat?
