Thing is, pawel is a 2 time judo world champ and won a gold medal in the Olympics for judo, so i guess they figured he'd beable to transition straight into a top heavyweight straight away. He was actually doing pretty well against nog till he gassed out.
Still i agree though, he was defiantly throw to the wolves, he should of been given a few easier fights to help with the transition.
Theres also a guy called kenneth williams who in his only two fights got chocked out by chuck then rampage. Hes never fought since but at least he would of had a story to tell his buddys while they where watch the chuck vs page fights!
Yuji Nagata also went a combined 1.23 seconds with cro cop and fedor before they both knocked him out.

there are a lot of guys like that, especially in Japan where they are stars in other sports or are very popular with the people. other cases like this include:
Kenneth Williams - only 2 fights were against Chuck Liddell and Rampage
Dong Sik Yoon - of his first 5 fights, 4 of his opponents were Saku, Rampage, Bustamante and Manhoef
Yuji Nagata - only 2 fights were against CC and Fedor
Bu Kyung Jung - of his 3 professional MMA fights, 2 of them were against Aoki and Ishida
Yosuke Nishijima - his only 5 fights were against Hunt, Yoshida, Cyborg, Baroni and Manhoef
Eric Smith - only 2 fights were against Pele and Hendo
Israel Albuquerque - 2 of his 3 fights were against Anderson Silva and Ninja

Pretty brutal way to start your carrer would be understatment of the century. Fight 3 of the top ten guys in the world and to see that all three are still on top, that dude didnt have much of a chance.
