“Wrestling is his strength, but his overall ground game is very good. He’s super, super dangerous on the ground compared to other fighters of his experience level. But I’m going to be honest with you, his ground and pound is second to none. I’ve never seen anyone with his stopping power on the ground, and that’s comparing him to the best out there. I’ve seen him hit guys so hard, he’ll knock them unconscious. And he has power from positions you just can’t imagine.”
That’s the scouting report on Shane Carwin from top middleweight fighter Nate Marquardt. Carwin will make his Octagon debut against Christian Wellisch at UFC 84: “Ill Will” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, next Saturday on May 24. In eight professional bouts he’s never fought longer than 131 seconds and has, collectively, spent just seven minutes and 20 seconds to finish all of his opponents. That’s average of 55 seconds per fight. Don’t blink … seriously.

Im not sure if im sold yet, i mean hes only beat like two guys with winning records. Im hearing alot of good things about him though so hopefully he can back up what people like nate are saying. Its going to take more than shane to save the ufcs heaveyweight division at this point though imo.

He looked like a robot, he was extremely stiff. They were even commenting on that it didn't matter how bad his head movement was because he caught Wellisch.

He's been training boxing maybe a year or two. I'm surprised he didn't rush Christian and take him down and do his g&p thing. It's good to know he has KO power in his striking. The technique will only improve. Being critical of him at this point is pretty lame, but saying he's the future right now makes no sense either.

Did anybody else notice that Corwin looked like Couture did about 10 years ago.

Carwin's bread and butter is the takedown and GnP, but it is nice to know that he has a lot of power, even though it is rather sloppy. Someone who trains with him told me that he has a Purple belt in BJJ so I was actually rather surprised.
I think I read somewhere that Carwin is 33 years old but he has not been in the sport too long so I believe he does have a moderate future in MMA. I actually would like to see him against Mark Coleman because I believe he is the younger and bigger version or Coleman instead of Lesnar.

You're awesome. I was thinking the same exact thing! Screw Heath Herring. I want to See Shane Carwin VS. Brock Lesnar at UFC 87
