Hello guys, if you are like me wondering when a big deal would exchange hands so that the USA UFC events are broadcasted in the UK live on the night, then this could be what we have been waiting for. I have emailed Setanta sports over the last few weeks asking them if there are any plans in the pipe work or securing a deal with the UFC that hopefully gives us live coverage straight from the states.
They cant tell me too much but i did just receive this response ...
(Dear *****
Thank you for your e-mail. Please accept my apologies for the delay in response.
Due to exceptional demand for the Setanta Sports package, we have received a high volume of customer enquiries by e-mail and are therefore unable to reply within our usual timescales. We are working hard to ensure that we respond to you as soon as we can.
I'm delighted to inform you that Setanta Sports and The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC) have signed a multi-year deal. From July this year, Setanta Sports 1 will be the exclusive home for all of the UFC’s big UK -and- US fights, plus all other UFC programming, in Britain and Ireland.
I hope you enjoy your viewing.)
... So hopefully this is the deal that gives us live events anywhere in the world !! thank you SETANTA !!

dude hate to break it to you but i knew this at the start of the year. im not that excited about it due to the fact i dont own setanta, we had a pretty sweet deal here in the uk watch the card a day later for free! all you had to do was avoid the internet and i went to all the uk events. now we need to pay for setanta, and to be honest i dont want to stay up to 5 in morn to watch the main event so i'll end up taping it and watching it on the sunday night anyway. i feel bad for bravo they introduced me to ufc and mma now they've lost out

Yeah I'm afraid this has been known for quite some time.
It's pretty good value, £10 a month for the suite of Setanta channels, so you get the live ppv football, cricket and boxing and now live UFC. Can't really complain about that and if you don't want to stay up til 4 or 5 watching it either sky+ it or I'm sure they'll repeat it the next night like they do with the boxing.

You are all missing the point guys !! What mma fan across the pond here in the UK wouldnt stay up til 5am to watch a live broadcast from the states... **** yeh, i would cut my left nut off to pay £10 a month to setanta in order to never miss a live event. Sky box office are hiding behind HBO with their crappy one fight wonder box office events, they dont wanna shy away from boxing because they aint got the ******* balls !! Also, **** bravo, they cut and paste events, you only see the fights, no backround fighter interviews, chat or new ufc news announced by dana. Setanta are putting us on the ******* map boys !!! ... Get behind them, dont tape a repeat off bravo until the full event is released on dvd like two years later !!! Whats up uk mma fans ??????

Will setanta actually be showing the events live though? or will it be the same kind of deal as bravo? I already get setanta anyways for the footie, and i usually stay up to watch ufcs on the net but i guess this will make it easier.
I really hope lots of people buy into this and setanta decides to broaden its horizons and starts showing other mma events to, that would be awesome becouse their usually harder to watch on the net.
I noticed a few weeks ago that itv4 was showing an ifl event, never seen one since though so i dunno if it was just a one card deal or whatever.

Setanta will be showing all UFC events live, starting from UFC 85
I believe they will also show the events a day later on repeat for those of us who can't be arsed to stay up late.

Yeah, already knew this but it is great news.
I don't pay for Setanta individually - I'm on Virgin Media and I get it as part of my deal. Either way £10 a month for all UFC PPVs live is great value. Especially considering what the Yanks have to pay.
You also get tons of other sport; football, boxing and soon they're even gonna have the League of Legends Darts.
I'll be staying up for the events, no problems there.

Setanta specialise in showing live sporting events so as said by hutch above on post, im pretty sure all ufc events will be live on there. This is really great news for us brit mma fans you guys, unlike all the other channels, Setanta will make a shit load of cash airing the ufc in the uk, if they've signed a multi year deal, then all ufc rights for the uk will come to our eyes and ears exclusively via this channel from july this year. Im glad Setanta have the balls to run with this sport !! .. Awesome job !!!

Yeah dude but Setanta is seriously crap! if its windy or rainy the signal is screwed! since i work sat/sun id still have to tape it and watch Sunday night anyway, yeah it will be nice to get the whole thing and not miss the 1 prelim we always do but really it aint all that much better, but LOL at you not knowing this until now, it was released as "news" literally over 6 months ago your mind could have been at rest much earlier dude
Even if i didnt have to work im not sure id stay up to 5am to watch it live, its not that much more special being live that would make the tiredness and lack of energy watching worth it tbh

I get a fairly good signal from setanta, i also work weekends like yourself, but **** me, i would watch a live event from the states even if it meant i didnt sleep at all sat night going in to sunday morning. I'd rather go into work tired than watch the ufc re run on bravo sunday evening.
As for me not knowing about this 6 months ago, thats mainly due to the hard training i have been doing oversea's for my up and coming rematch between myself "keith hackney" ... The giant killer ... and joe son !!!!! ... By the way, those of you who cant remember joe son from the early ufc's, he's also known as the first fighter to repeatably get cracked in the wedding tackle area... Perfectly legal back then !!!! Also you may have seen joe son in austin powers playing the role of dr. evils body guard odd job !!
Thanks for the humiliation of finding out 6 months later, keith hackney feels slightly abused !!!

Dont worry KH, I didn't realise Setanta had exclusive rights until now either. But then judging by the number of posts I've made against some of you other guys, I'm not quite as fanatical.
It's good that Setanta are supporting the UFC and that we will have the opportunity to watch live events and more prelims. But will we really be getting that much more than what Bravo offered? Or is this just a sign that MMA is becoming more popular in this country and as Setanta is considered pay-per-view, does this just make MMA even less accessible? Especially to those who don't subscribe. Will we eventually have to pay a one off payment for just one event like the Americans? Gives me a good reason to keep my Setanta subscription going though.
