“St. Pierre looks awesome. He’s one of the fights that I’d really love to have right now. I need to make sure I look really good against my opponents; I want go out and dominate people so I can build some momentum for that fight…. He doesn’t have a lot of weaknesses. He’s going to be a tough guy to beat, because it’s not like you can pick out one thing. To beat a guy like St. Pierre you have to be in phenomenal shape and keep the pressure on him. You’ve got to stay in his face, and if he takes you down, you better be ready to get back up and not just stay in guard and get manhandled like he’s doing to people.”
– Jake Shields — Elite XC welterweight and among the top 170-pound fighters in the world — tells MMAWeekly.com about how he would approach a fight with UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre. Shields is set to battle Drew Fickett for the vacant Elite XC welterweight strap some time soon. In fact, the bout was scratched last month when Shields sustained a back injury during training, rescheduled for June 14 and now pushed back again, it appears, to July 26 — the second show for the promotion on CBS “Saturday Night Fights.”

I'd be surprised if it went that far! I think Shields is talented but theirs no way he'd last as long as Hughes did wish GSP.

I think he should concentrate on Fickett first. He may not make it past that fight.

Shields doesn't have the tools to beat GSP. He isn't strong enough and his competition isn't anywhere near it needs to be to face him. Fight a couple more years then start yappin about GSP, now is not the time. I do think Fitch does have a real chance though. It will be a war, and yes. You better stay in GSP's face or you will have major problems. I feel the only way you can beat him is with great takedown defense and awesome standup. So, GO FITCH.

Everyone has a dream no matter how unrealistic it is.
Fickett will test him, GSP would retire him.

I dont think there is a person that can beat GSP right now other than A Silva. and even then I think GSP will come out on top. Shields would get pummeled, either TKO or Sub before round 3. odds on him winning would be slim.

Not strong enough???? What have u been smokin???? He beat one of the biggest and strongest Middle Weights in the UFC "In the world for that matter" in Yushin Okami. I don't think at this moment in his career that Jake could beat GSP.... But I wouldn't count him out... He's got some of the best BJJ in the game, and amazing wrestling ability, and his cardio is very close to that of GSP... It'd be a very intersting and intertaining fight.
