It's the classic up and coming prospect against the tried and true veteran. I'm taking Alves 2nd round KO.

I would like Alves to win and if he does he should be the next contender after Fitch but I think Hughes will win by UD.
And then the fight I have wanted to see for ages Hughes v Serra.

Should be a good fight, im usually a big fan of out with the old and in with the new but im beginning to get nostalgic for Hughes, if he can't get his head in the game hes not long for this sport, as he loves to repeat to people... at any rate, if he can't do that Alves will send him to the matt...(pun intended i guess... it was unintentional but i read it... and what the hell)

I can't wait for this fight.
Hughes needs to get this to the ground quickly to start to wear down a much more athletic fighter in Alves. Hughes has to watch out for the leg kicks and knees of Alves.
If Hughes can get Alves down and control him for much of the first, I really see Alves wearing down from Hughes' ground and pound which will lead to a 2nd round submission win for Hughes.
Hughes has to avoid taking to much damage from Alves' leg kicks. Taking to many leg kicks could slow and weaken Hughes' takedowns and if Alves is able to keep this fight standing, the fight is his.

Alves likes to feel out his opponent for the first round. So, I expect Hughes will take him down in the first and lay on him in half-guard. Hughes will get confident and come out, ready to get tko late in the second by Alves. Alves will turn it up a few notches and exercise better takedown defense, as well as relentless punches, kicks and knees. i think it should be similar to the Karo syrup fight.

Alves by TKO RD 2, just as long as he can handle Hughes' wrestling skills.

Hughes by UD. Granted Hughes and Karo have different take down styles, but Alves was on the ground more than enough in their fight. and Hughes has better control over someone once their down than Karo does. I see Hughes taking a buncha punches to the face and missing a few shots, but eventually he'll pull of a single leg and hold him down, attempt a little GnP and do enuff to take 2 of the rounds for a UD.

Yep, unless Hughes tries to stand with Alves in this fight then Hughes will take it. He's got way too much control over his opponents once he takes them down. Hughes laying on you must feel like a heavyweight laying on you from some of the stuff we've seen. Royce Gracie didn't have a JJ answer for Hughes' side control and "crucifix beat down" position.

That position must be so fustrating to be in, you can't defend yourself and you just know the fight will be ended.

Hehe, yeah. Especially with someone as strong as Hughes on top of you. He beat BJ the same way. Honestly I can't think of any really good ways to get out of that position. I guess the best thing is to just not get put into it!

Yeah, i dont think there is a way to get out of it, and he managed to get two of the best BJJ practicioners in MMA into it aswell! Royce and Penn. Alves better not fall into the same trap or it'll be a short fight for him.
